Hey.. do a search and you will see some exhaust choices that members have.. Most popular are the lukey and redback exhausts.
For catback $400 sounds about right.. I was recently quoted $400 for 2.5" piping, and lukey stainless steel race muffler.. not including the tip and that was pretty good for that muffler.
A few members have had good dealings with quite a few different exhaust shops.. post up which suburb your from and Im sure someone can give you some suggestions locally.
Personally, I got the best price from Cromer Exhaust, but that might be a little out of your way.

In that case, make sure you don't get a canon. A proper wide body muffler will almost always sound tougher than a canon muffler.
For what it's worth, once you go down the extractor path, and if you get equal length primaries, you'll find you can start to hear the individual exhaust gas pulses and that sounds hot. But that's more dollars than it sounds like you're looking to spend just now.

hmmm i dunno .... ive heard alot more bad normall mufflers than i have cannons ....
i had sme lukey muffler originally it sounded ok but a lil hollow though .... the cannon sounds way better ..... though i think either way u go u should have a really nice exhaust note ... the magna engines seem to sound awsome

Seeing as you got a manual, try a hotdog - there ****in cheap wouldn't recommend it for an auto as they're not quiet but on a manual sound awesome :P

what is a hotdog? how does it differ from just gettin the muffler and a tip done? does it cost much extra or is cheaper?

For Noise, get that Mamouth Boat anchor of a Rear muffler replaced with something from Pro-Ex,Red back or Genie.. Then you will notice a exhuast note not to dissimiliar to a Mitsubishi 3000GT
For Performance.. Replace the Whole exhaust system from the Headers backwards....
