Greetings All.

Firstly, sorry for the non-magna related material...but tech torque doent say it has to be magna related...and i didnt know where else to put it...

That outta the way, this one is for all you motor heads!
Im doing a little research at the moment, and i was wondering, which of the following is a LIGHTER (yes as in weight)???

What are your thoughts on the 13B?? I dont know an awfull lot about it...Any of you happen to have the specs on the 13B??

(Forget what turbo arrangements the engines have...)

Cheers Guys...

The 13b would be a bunch lighter than an rb25det. But if your going to tinker with a 13b, be prepared for overhauls, unexpected breakages are the name of the rotary game, ohh and being ****in quick :P

13b should be lighter by quite a bit i reckon... given the size of the housing (much smaller than the inline 6 block of the rb) and less moving parts

*sigh* u only need to replace apex seals and rotors/bearings as often as u do a Timing belt in any other car.
a 13B engine only has 7 moving parts. Therefore if anything does ever go wrong, its pretty damn obvious what its going to be. Hmm i can count more than 7 moving parts just under my rocker cover alone.....

Forget what people say about rotaries and unreliability, many have no idea. They probably look at rotaries that are running 8 sec 1/4miles.
Like any engine, you give it a hard time, its gonna f*ck up eventually. Rotaries dont like over-revving, so keep it out of redline and u'll be fine.
My brother had a Series 1 Rx7 for 130,000km's and with maintenance and regular servicing (every 5000km) it didnt miss a beat.

The main thing with rotaries is you must let them idle for about 5 minutes to warm up properly and same before you turn them off, to extend there life

13b's are way lighter.
With a 13B, 2 things can destroy the whole engine

1. Harmonics, will break the crank in the middle

2. Oil foaming, result is no oil pressure leads to a busted oil pump then after that depending on how fast you shut of the engine is how much damage will occur, happened to my friend at 10,000rpm, the danger zone for the engine

but this is only to worry about if you building a drag or race engine. I have nothing against 13B's, they can be fun.

An RB25DET can be really responsive if you spend the time on it but they can have their issue's too

1.3 litre block as against a 2.6 litre block.

13b would be way lighter than a RB series engine
Reliability wise, RB would be more reliable, providing it is properly built, and maintained, and rotary would be a hell of-a-lot more exciting to drive. Just periphial port it, rev it to 10,000, and go have some fun

Greetings All.

WOW! Thanks for the quick replies guys!!

Another quicky...a late model 13B TT...what sorta power do the make and at what RPM??

I realise that a 13b has overheating problems...so a couple of oil coolers and stuff will be in need...LOL!!

Compaired to a RB25DET...do they have potential?? Are they responsive to mods stuch as high boost, port & polish....Etc?

Thanks Guys!

I love both engines, but for reliability and peace of mind, I would go the RB25. They are a bullet proof engine without the not-so-good reputation of the rotaries. Ive had mates with both, and the guys with the rotaries always seemed to be stuck under the bonnet.
The rotary is definatly lighter.
Cheers

if your looking for an engine that will handle high boost/big HP, why start with an RB25? i'd rather spend a bit extra on a later model RB26 and spend a lot less getting the same power....

you have unlimited aftermarket tuning support with the RB. and those things are good for about 500kw without any internal strenghtening. they are pretty much indestructable.

the 13B is a damn fine engine though, and is a fair whack lighter. but as samurai says, as long as you keep it well maintained and serviced wel, you shouldnt see any probs. and the sound of a rotary..... mmgghmmhmhhhhggrm *drools*

Rotary engined Vehicles have Higher Power to Weight Ratios as in the Engine Developes more HP from a lighter engine..
Only Problem is Rotary's have higher fuel consuption and generate power high in the rev range leading to more wear and tear and shorter engine life..

the RB25 is a good engine, but dont like reving hard, plenty of aftermarkey bits out there for them and alot of tuners know heaps about these engines due to their popularity, if on a budget a RB26 is a waste of money, you can make a 300kw+ 25 for the price of buying a good condition 26! but if you like revs, my mate had an internally stock RB20 silver top, with larger turbo, cooler and a wolf 3D he was makin 300hp atw, but that was made well past the so called redline! the RB20 will happily rev to 9,000 all day! my mate prooved that one! anyone in perth that has been in the car scene for a while would have seen the white R31 wagon that a few car shows cancelled from their venues due to mega burnouts a few years ago!

What would this lil puppy be goin into?

If its a light small car 13bt as they have sfa Torque, but all the Kw you could want.

not realy knowledgeable with the nissan engines, but i would have to say i have heard of their strength and mod-ability.

Greetings All.

At the moment im leaning towards the RB25DET, mainly because it has ALOT more low to mid-range torque. Also the weight i would save with the 13B will help handleing ALOT, but performance will lack due to a lack of torque...

Also, i LOVE the tough RB exhaust note...YUM!! LOL!

Cheers,

why would you put one in a VL? they already have an RB30 in them...... unless it was a V8 in it?

depends on your pocket u have to see is that cylinder engines have so many more things to chage like after market cams and wat not rotaries are cheaper to mod i think but nothing beats the sound of a rb series engine but i think the rb20 has the best note imo

i like both ..... love the sound of modded rotors idling:D .... for something diferent what about a 2JZ:D

Greetings All.

Well the reason for a 13B is the weight saving over a RB...and a 2JZ is heaver again...

I just realised there are 20B triple rotors...although, i feel they may be a bit hard to come by...

Cheers,
