Hey All
My car wont start
the starter motor is whirring when i turn the key but the engine doesnt crank at all
slightly before this happened i did have a blow out at about 110km/h and the car shook quite violently and im wondering if this could have had anything to do with it
any input on this subject would be great
thanks alot

Uh-oh... so does it make a 'smooth spin' sound, or just no firing to engine but the engine turns? If its not turning at all, unfortunately theres a chance the timing chain is stuffed.. which is really bad.. bent valves and the like in most cases.. would need a top-end rebuild. But if the engine is moving in one way or another it could be distributor, or unplugged distributor lead.. I think.. thats what happened to my old TR 4cyl..
Got my fingers crossed for ya..

If you turn the key and all it makes is a electric whirring like a powerdrill... your
starter motor has shot its gears. Just get a reco starter motor fitted.
How to check your engine's good?
Manual TR I see? good, here's how:-
Put your car in 1st gear, clutch out & Handbrake off (on a flat place of course).
Now PUSH the car forwards... does it move? No?? Good, you've got compression.
(that means your topend is still good)
Now put it in 5th gear and PUSH it again.
You'll be able to turnover the engine this time... push it about 10'.
There shouldn't be any abnormal cracking/clanking sounds from engine.
Just doublechecking...
How to start a manual car? Easy!
Ignition ON.
Put in 2nd gear.
Press clutch in and get your mates to push until a fast jogging pace.
When fast enough, let clutch OUT.
It will turnover the engine and (hopefully) fire up.
Best to then immediately clutch IN and rev it a bit in neutral to warmup.
Be careful and only do it where its safe.

i dont think that the top end is gone as the car was running fine last time i stopped it
so its most likely that the starters a goner
ill have a go a clutch starting in but there arent many decent hill around here and i dont think many people will be too willing to help me push it lol

yeah prolly the starter motor,
you would have to have all your distributer leads off for it not 2 fire, i hit a pothole in my old pulsar and one of the distubiter leads came off, it sounded all ****ed up so i pulled over thinking id broke a suspension arm or something, had a look all sweet, tried to turn it over and it worked but was spluttering and making all sorts of banging noises, so i popped the bonnet and yeah 4th cylinder lead on distubiter side had come loose. pop her back on and it was sweet.
