I think i'm due for a timing chain change because my mechanic said the chain is rattling on my 4cyl ts magna. So my questions are:
Who here isn't a mechanic and has changed the belt themselves?
How long does it take to change the chain and all the other chains and guides associated with it, without pulling the engine out?
And can anyone living melbourne give me a hand to change it, you will be paid is money or alchie, up to you.

A good mechanic who's done it before... 1 whole day.
Newbie's first time... geez, I wouldn't try it.
Pretty darned hard job as it is, let alone without pulling the engine out.

absolute prick of a job, dont even attempt unless your very experienced with working on cars and subsequently very confident.
take it to a mechanic you'll probably save yourself ALOT of trouble

pretty much everything except for work eliminates money out of your pocket. Supposedly magnas are pretty good cars and very repairable.

Why bother with removing the balance shafts?! Mitsu put them there for a reason.
A few extra moving bits sure, but you won't gain any noticeable power by ditching them.
If you're doing a chain job, might as well pay a few bux more for:-
-full oil & filter change
-backflush the radiator & new coolant
(some of the cheap chain job places re-use your oil & coolant :doubt: )
