Cd's after they are played are generally hot.. so yes it is normal..
One thing to look for though is make sure all the breather spaces are open on the head unit (all those slits and holes usually around the casing)
Also make sure the Heatsink at the back of the stereo is free from objects.

the face on my alpine CDA-7892E gets extremely warm when in use, i did ask and the installer said it was pretty normal and depends on how ur using it. he recommended i just keep the face angled to let more air at it.

my alpine instructions say that the unit will get hot especialy around the contacts where the face makes connection.. so i presume it 100% normal!

After driving for 11 hours constantly listening to CD;s my alpine CDM 7856R was quite warm - almost burning - but still played well enough that we didn't turn it off - and it works fine still.

just to let you no i have a Pioneer 6450 head unit and it is rather normal for all pioneer models to heat up. I asked pioneer and they said that the deck can get to as hot as 49.5 degrees.

yes its all good buddy
seems like a worry i know, but i have an Alpine deck and yes it gets extremely warms. (i wonder how itll go on my trip up north in a few weeks)
and in reply to someone elses post, i am also very lucky to have purchased a deck that i can actually angle while playing. this hopefuly allows more air flow.

So dont worry!!!

if you didnt get it installed professionally id consider chuckin in an inline fuse just to make sure its not pulling too much amps.

i wouldnt want it to run constantly hot.... the hotter things get the more component wear will take place.
could also be due to if u running speakers off the head unit and they drawing abit of power from the h/u amp maybe?
if anything turn the aircon on =]
