If you read my other thread you know I have a problem of slow acceleration and over time it went slower.

SYMPTOM: ENGINE HESITATES

Description of problem: Whenever you push on the accelerator (gas pedal), the car doesn't seem to move like it should or like it did before. You sense a general lack of power and know something is not right. This problem may appear suddenly or get worse over time. You may notice the problem when the engine is hot or cold or when you are low on fuel. A description of when the problem occurs will help to identify the exact cause of the problem.

12am night.

Ok so I check out the air filter first.
Removed it to see if it was dirty.. it was all white with a bug or few in it who must of flew into it.
Drove out the garage without air filter, then down the road and around the block, it did make a louder noise but it felt like it had more power also, like it jerks before it lifts off and it feels like my old V6 power acceleration speed back.

anyways chucked back on the airfilter thinking it be bad if bugs get into my engine or too much dirt. drove around block again felt didnt feel as good as when it didnt have air filter..

So to be sure, I done it again, took off air filter around the block then on again, this time it kinda felt closely to the same again. Too much noise around the block at this time of night and dont wanna wake up people so i will leave the test till tomorrow.

Questions:
1.I pretty sure I only had 1 airfilter steel clip.. close the hood the first time when i first took it out and i hear a click/clack noise and lifted it up to know i just cracked the plastic bit holding the steel clip. So i just stuck it on the other one and fitted so i took it out then close the hood. Is 1 clip sufficent? or both needed? 1 Clip felt pretty secure.

2.First time I notice w/out airfilter, 2nd time it felt the same w/out airfilter. Does the car suck in a enough air for a while? and maybe when i took out airfilter it sucked in enough air that could last for some distance and i threw the airfilter back on and it didnt need any air so i didnt feel the differnce? or must I have just dream it :(

3.Anyone have any pics or know how you can tell air filter is dirty? I tried blowing though it but i have a tuff time getting air though but it dont seem to be dusty.

This is better

The one clip is sufficient, i had 1 clip for a while and it did the job,

what kind of filter you running? i noticed quite the difference when i changed my stock filter which was brown as hell to the K&N, dirtyness wouldnt lead to a huge difference but it does help

maybe buy a filter cleaner or a new one

Sounds like your car may be starving. Check the fuel pump for build up of dirt and replace if neccessary. When was the last time you changed your plugs/leads?

Absolutely positively not.

Hey Vinh, I would have a serious look also at your fuel filter as it is possable you picked up a dirty load of fuel and this would make the problem get worse over time due to the filter becomming more blocked.
I did not look at your signature or anyting but from memory you have a TF or someting along those lines? If so the filter is under the car in front of the tank. When you remove it be careful as it will be under pressure. The best way is to unplug the electrical connection from your fuel pump, run the car until it stalls then crank for for a few seconds. This will remove most of the pressure.
Probably best to just replace it anyway as they are not that expensive and it has probably been there a while.

Its a magna 97 TF advance V6.

What kind of filter do I buy or look for? do they sell it in like kmart? Plus what kind of engine oil do I buy aswell?

Avoid KMart, you get what you pay for.
There are bound to be fairly reasonable discount parts places areound you.
The Oil filter, fuel filter and air filter should ideally be Ryco as they have the good reputation.
Oil good ones are penzoil, penrite etc.

could be
dirty injectors
dirty fuel pump
problem with stepper motor also called the idle control motor, i had this problem with my TS caused it to stall and have no power in low revs
air flow problem
just needs a service and tune, on my old cordia i had to retard the timing cause the engine was pinging caused big loss of power and fuel economy, i told them to advance the timing again till it was pinging slighty and ran a higher octane fuel to stop the pinging
old spark plugs and leads, in my TS i had really old plugs stupid mechanics didn't change them when they were sposed to be but after that it ran so much better, the old plugs caused it to misfire
it could be any number of things
but im no mechanic i know sfa
go get a service done and see what the mechanics says

looks like im looking at $500-+ easy maybe eve $1000.. depending on my luck if the mecanic can find the problem :/

I thinking some of yous get your car serviced by mitsubishi.. anyone know what is the full car service price and what it includes?

Im thinking I should start with a full service then if it dont fix the problem.

Problem: (not my car just another magna pic) A chattering noise coming from around there and powerlost at about the same time. A few months ago.

I dont know which way to go about trying to fix this problem but so far im thinking i might just beg my mum for some money and go to the mitsu mecanics and tell them the noise and powerlost and maybe they will get directly to the problem.

Anyways im finger crossing it wont cost me more then $500... :(

hehe dam worst think is asking parents for money, they brought gave me $13k for a car and now im asking for more espcailly when they just came back from overseas when grandfather passed away. Ive been job searching, im doing full time tafe, so far I sent in 3 resumes and rang 2 guys.. 2 of them told me they ring me back in a few days.
Just hopeing I can get a job starts at like 5pm to 9pm then another one from 9pm to 3am then tafe in the day time.

Save your self some $$ and check your fuel filter first. As a mechanic myself this and distributor caps are the 2 main causes of exessive power loss that I have come accross in the past.

Your a mecanic? wow nice.
Ok I will do check fuel filter and change engine oil also in 1 go.
One thing what is Distributor caps?

on the right side of the engine, where all your spark plug leads come out from. It it is getting worn, this may cause power loss however a fair amount of power loss like you had in one go would point more to some thing like a bad fuel pump, blocked filter or injector.

Where are all out car gurus...?

http://www.mogwa.org/forum/phpBB2/files/ok.jpg

Its making ticking sound and the engine is louder.. all coming from that bit in the circle bit and slow acceleration....

I took my car to mitsu today, 30min job... they just scan and found some errors and erased charged me $40...

I knew it wasnt fixed... but o well going to go there tomorrow again and tell them! GRRR
