The Alpine type R were cheaper but not as good. also the guy there owns a 3rd gen and said the alpine fronts were too deep and would mess with my power windows. i didnt even look at type S cos the polk ones cranked!

i had a book of specials and he knocked prices off those specials but the install is going to be $270

and rears. dont need em, i sit in the front :P lol

Look at getting the Rears... Alpine type S 2-way 6x9's would be a nice addition when you get around to it..

Hrmm... i've got a 99 Sports, and i've got the Type S front splits... they are pretty deep speakers, and they sit in my factory inclosures no problem at all. No problem with power windows etc, so don't be deterred from getting them.. but if you prefer the Polk anyways.. then go for it. I don't know the brand though, so can't really comment I spose..

And if you are wanting a nice sound in the car, you need some rear fill. You might think you won't notice the difference, but if you have em in your car, and then u turn the rear speakers off, you will notice that it sounds MUCH better with rear speakers.

Mitsa_jerk: You should have got the guy to throw in a pair of 6x9's for free in the rear.. Anything is going to be better than the stock speakers currently in the Magna.

yeah i might see about rears wen i go get it installed. and as for fitting in the doors I was looking at Type R's... they might be deeper than the type s?
and i liked the sound of the polk ones better anyway

having a look. the type S are 65mm deep and the Type R are 70mm deep.
maybe that 5mm is too much?
