That looks really nice man....

I just put mine in on Sunday... am thinking of putting some mesh to cover the mouth of the pipe... just to stop bugs and other random **** getting in there...

I already have a K & N filter and have noticed improved performance after I reach second gear... But thats just what I think...

Done well.

But 'squishing' your pipe in the mouth of the fog log doesnt really help to get the most out of your induction.

just 1 thing all looks good, with ya storm plumbers adaptor, push it in till just b4 1/2 way. it fits tighter and better. :D good work

my bag broke, officer.

back on topic... however, it looks eextreemly squished, and i can imagine the huge bend you would of had to of put in the pipe. might of been better to let it scoop air from bellow the front bumper.

fezza
23-08-2005, 03:06 PM
its not all that squished to get it through the driving light hole cos i know i shouldnt have but i cut the back end of the driving light thingo, there is a slight bend but all up the pipe isnt really restricted much at all, not too many bends...is it better to have it there or below the front bumper near the towing eye? wont it get water in there from puddles, etc??? should i cover the front of the hole up with mesh to stop insects or other crap gettin in there also

GVR4WA
23-08-2005, 05:05 PM
Don't worry about insects, they'll collect on your air filter. But with a gaping hole out the front of your car like that you would probably have to check it regularly :P

Or you could just mesh it, have you seen TH smokers CAI kit by any chance?

hey im interested in doing something like this but my concern is this: (copy & paste from your other thread)

that hole is soo much smaller than the stock inlet... why do you think thats going to be better than the stock snorkel?

cheers

Gremlin, rather than do just the single snorkel down to the bumper.

Keep your current intake and add a snorkel below it. Its easy to do. If you were in Melbourne id show you how to do it.

Maybe someone in melbourne is willing to be a guinea pig?

ive had my 90mm PVC pipe hanging right out at the front of that fog light hole for about a year. Water has yet to be an issue, and i was going to mesh it up as well but i have been surprised that very little dirt/bugs gets up into the airbox at all really!

Its a little bit more effort but i went with PVC pipes and bends, as its completely smooth compared with the ribbed stuff.

Nice work tho, i like your style, ya just got a TH manual and already tinkering :D

that hole is soo much smaller than the stock inlet...
do you think so? I have looked at that flat inlet snorkel a number of times and i thought it would have been more effort to suck air through that restricted flattened shape than the larger open hole as there is more surface area for one, but well, who can really be sure.

like when you attach a flat tip fitting on to the end of your vacuum cleaner you can hear the amount of extra energy required to get that air through and the change in tone at the tip... and then you pull it off again and hear it go back to a more relaxed and freed opening... that's how i see it anyway.

Gremlin: Do what rolliart did on his last car. http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showpost.php?p=254516&postcount=28 but put a flare in the front guard for bigger intake. On your black car it will be less noticeable.

At least it fills in that large expanse of plastic. Anyway if you dont like it do what rolliart did and just write it off and get a new one! ( Just jokes)

Also look at this for the TH http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showpost.php?p=250928&postcount=26

damn havent seen that engine bay pic for a while, so god damn factory looking!
Also, it looks like that plumbers adapter he has used to connect the piping to the airbox fits OVER the airbox slot as opposed to inside like every one else has done. Its the reason i have not used one yet, as when it slots inside, the diameter is decreased quite a bit.

Maybe its slightly bigger adapter or something, maybe i will have to PM rolliart :P

If you use 100mm tubing then the plumbing adaptor fits around the opening of the box, only really do it with TL's though or manuals.

yeh was thinking its probably 100mm. Why do you say only TL's or manuals? cos of room?
I could always use the 100mm plumbers adapter to attach to the airbox and then attach a 100mm to 90mm adapter to that and run 90mm PVC the rest of the way like i have now

do u have one of those 100mm adapters greenmatt? if so where did u get it? or do you know where i would get one

I got mine from bunnings on Parramatta Rd (sydney) but I havent seen them again, for the reason why only TL's or manuals yes its the room for the pipe: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16688&highlight=CAI

The design i have is similar, but it goes directly to the airbox just below the top intake. This way there is no air being 'slowed' down from crossflow as such from directly adding in a 2nd intake to the top one.

theres a few nsw boys that have done the same. sharkie being one, but yer, i believe the pipe was fed much closer into the box.

My thoughts is that attaching an additional air take closer to the front end of the scoop, may counter-act the air coming in from the original scoop. SO best bet (imo) would be to plug it straight into the box.

wow i started this thread and now ive got like nothing to with it hahah..anyways i picked up my k&n panel filter today..cost me 145 from autopro at the crossroads, kinda wish id waited to buy it a bit cos i also booked my car in to get a new mp3 cd tuner tomorow and if i hadnt bought the filter i would have had another 145 to spend of speakers or a better tuner..but ah well

It's a length of 90mm PVC pipe that's been cut, flared with a heat gun and an end cap put on it to direct the airflow. This intake was then sat at an angle to further direct the air back into the pipe. There are 2 x metal straps bolted to the chassis and bumper brackets to support it.

I'm going to try and make some plastic welded scoops to suit cai at the bumper setups. Will aim to be a complete kit. I start tomorrow!
