Basically you may see my other topic (Im new, YAY!), when I got my TF Magna though, the button on the Automatic stick pops out when I shift from Third to Drive, LIKE FULLY OUT. Upon closer inspection it seems that the clips on either side of the button are broken. My friend says I should be able to pick up this little button from Mitsubishi for like $5 but I dont think so. Anyone actually had this problem before? Should I just use a bit of blue tac in there for now?
Also, how much do you guys normally get off a tank? Ive heard the tanks are 65 litres, and the other day I put $40 in (at like $1.18 a litre) and I got 300km off the tank. Is that relatively normal or is my car using too much fuel. Please note the last car I was driving was a Mitsubishi Nimbus so Im not used to V6. :bowrofl:

$5 from Mitsu... tell him he's dreaming ;) he he... well you might be lucky to get it that cheap... might pay to try to find a decent wrecker in a reasonable distance and you might just find one there!
I am pretty sure the tank is 71 litres from bone dry empty...I think at that price you would be looking around the $70 - $75 mark to fill up (from empty). So did you fill it right up to full cos from empty, $45 would have only got you about 2/3's of a tank or there abouts. You may not have filled up completely (it may have clicked off before it was full)
Also depends on your driving habits... some people get around 500 k's from a tank, others with a heavy foot (and flux capacitor) may be lucky to get 400! depends also on how well the car is tuned etc etc... here is a tip that I use as I don't have a fancy trip computer in my TF Exec to work out my rough fuel consumption.
When the needle hits half way pull into a servo
Record the number of litres you put into the tank to fill it (litres filled)
Reset your trip counter back to zero before driving away
run the tank down to half way again
Record the number of kilometers travelled (km's travelled)
Do the following calc.
km's travelled / litres filled = rough litres per Kilometer
litres filled / km's travelled = rough kilometers per litre
It is a really rough calc and sure the fuel guage can fluctuate, fuel tanks contract and expand but it is as good as I can get it with no fancy digital readout. Better than nothing...
If those calcs are wrong, please excuse me I am dead tired... going straight to bed now lol
p.s. Welcome to the club :D
My 99 TH seems to only get 400ks off a tank. i even put BP 98 octane in drove normal for half a tank and only got 216ks.
i think i need a tune up. im so pissed at home much fuel it uses. especially because of the price of fuel atm.

Hey buddy, i used to have this probem with my TH, but the nice guys at Knox Mitsu changed it for no charge when i had the car serviced there. So might be worth dropping in to see what theyre actually worth.
And with the petrol thing, expect to be paying through the nose to keep it running. I filled my tank an hour ago for $72 bucks and i get roughly 450k's out of a tank. But as HyperTF said, different people get different amounts of k's out of a tank. What sort of driving do you do? A lot of stop start, or country driving?
if u are talking to me. i do stop start driving.

hey i had that button come out completely! just go down the wreakers and swap em over ! once those clips are gone i think its over for that button! you can still use when it breaks off completely! just take it off and push down like you would usually !
maybe just better off getting an aftermarket automatic knob... aluminium one.. they dont look too bad :)

Ive just done a 1297km trip in my magna and i used 108.6litres of petrol.
This was done sitting on 120kmh on cruise control on the open road and there was about 250kms of stop go city driving included in that trip.
I have always got really good economy out of my magna ever since i bought it new in 1999.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
Basically I havent really been thrashing it yet....im still not used to it (its a bit low compared to a Nimbus). But I did give it a bit of a kick after we installed new headlights and aimed them properly (kind of like a christening :D ).
And Ill just wait around for the little button part I guess. Theres sure to be a Gen 3 wreck sometime soon, Ill just keep scanning the Quokka or calling up wreckers.
I mentioned it somewhere else but the battery cover is cracked and the air box has a broken latch, so Im on the look out. I also wouldnt mind finding a spoiler for it as well. >_> Needs to be same colour of course, respraying might cost a bit.
my flat mate has a red spoiler on his. he also has a button too. could work something out

pfft, battery cover, i lost mine ages ago
As for the latch on the air obx, i take it your referring to the metal clip that holds the filter in??
If so, just go and buy a pod (oval of course) and that will solve all your probs. Should be able to get them from mits or local wreckers (your in WA, try Magnawreck in maddington)

I know I shouldnt worry about the battery cover. >_> But its driving me mad. I really wouldnt mind it to be there and not cracked like mine.
Sounds good, I might give MagnaWreck a ring tomorrow.
