hows things everyone... was just looking at some JVC HU since everyone thinks they are the shiz at the moment and showed dad the one i thought was awesome, the KD-LHX555. Dads reply was u already have a HU why dont i just get u an old laptop and u hook it up to your car. That got me thinkin, how would i go about putting a laptop maybe in my boot and connecting it to my HU?? Would i be able to select songs on my laptop throught the HU??

I have a laptop in my room which is connected to my little sound system through the AUX intput could i just do it the same in my car??

I have a pioneer DEH-P5550. Since i think he may be able to get me a laptop free or cheap from his work, how much besides the laptop would it cost to do?? Any help would be good as if its possible i would seriously considerr it.

Head unit needs an AUX input which you just hook up to the audio out from the notebook. This not the optimal way though as notebook headphone audio outputs are amplified and generally have a lot of distortion, too much to be useful for full-time audio.

No you will not be able to control the notebook from your head unit; should have just bought one that is able to play MP3s.

my head unit does play mp3's, but im sick of burning cd's every 2 seconds when i want to have a new song in my car. Just rather have the 7000 songs right there all togerther

hahhaha yeh have been considering that too, but $400 or something plus the 140 for the adaptor pretty expensive, just exploring all avenues.
Thanks for your suggestions though

There was a thread about this not that long ago. If you do a search for "carputer", you should find some good info on it. The thread title is something like computer audio system in your car.
Your best bet is to get a touch screen moniter so you can control and select your mp3's. then you can watch movies aswell.
