Hard to say without actually looking at the car, but if it has been regulary serviced it should be in top condition, mines about to hit the big 300k kms so you should be right as long as it's been looked after :D.

hi thanks for your reply. what are the problems when you put a pod filter and exhaust system on the 2.6 litre motor. do you know of any other problems. paint is faded on roof and bonnet interior is excellent just needs a clean . thinking of getting it this weekend

As long as you put the pod right before the MAS there shouldn't be any problems.
Exhaust, dont get any bigger than 2 1/4 inch as you may find economy and even power going down, 2 1/4 piping is a good size.
My paint is faded on the roof and bonnet also, what colour is the car? it's pretty common for metallic paint cars to start fading around the 10-15 year mark, my mums '91 corolla has done the same thing also.
Just drive the car, make sure there's no lumpy gear changes, check for any oil leaks.
You'll be right :).

Drop it over mate if you want it looked at, I can give you a fairly good idea of the condition of the car.

Hey mate, if youre after a TR 2.6 Auto, in SA, I could sell ya mine... it has had ****eloads of work (eg maintainance) on it, new top end, new cooling system, new left hand cvjoint and powersteering rack+ more i cant think of right now... and my mechanic thinks that the bottom end has been recond... but if youre after performance, a 2.6 auto is a bad idea... about the fuel economy, fairly good if you drive it soft, but a 2.6 is a big 4cyl... if you drive it 3000rpm+ a lot, it eats fuel like a fat bloke eats pies... oh and 1st gear is reeeaaaaly long, but i think all autos are
