hypothetically is such a conversion even possible? and most importantly how much would it cost and would it be worth it?
Can anyone say awd, sprintex ralliart?
Has anyone heard of this type of conversion on any car, magna or otherwise?

I have heard of drivetrain conversions, but the costs were absolutely huge, and I believe, it was done for motorsport purposes and as such, would not have been street legal.

Could you imagine explaining that to your insurance company?

I think all of us have thought about this from time to time... I remember when someone had a Ralliart engine up for sale, would have been great in an AWD, but the woes with getting the computer and transmission controller to talk...

180Kw AWD + SC - eeep!

I have NFI why mitsu never made an AWD ralliart...

BTW - the floorpans are different - I have a TJ exec and a TJ AWD - there are bulges in the floor on the AWD that just aren't there on the execs.

I am going to attempt this on my TS, i will need to pretty much strip it back to just a body so i can cut out the rear section of the floorpan and fabricate a new one as well as making a new transmission tunnel, and new rear suspension mounting points, and strengthening the chassis
Apparently in the 2nd gens a 3000gt AWD gearbox (with its centre diff) fits in if i remember rightly a guy in NZ did this but had the centre diff locked as he was only going to have it front wheel drive. But its still in there, i think his name is silverbullet, his car is also n the fastmagna galleries.
Its going to be a long project and i know i am going too have many a insurance and rego issue, (i may only end up with third party property damage)
The other thing is that there are some factory 1st gen diamantes (equivalent to the 2nd gen magna's) that were factory AWD with 4 wheel steer (same as a 3000gt/GTO except for running a N/A motor and Auto only) so i may look into this aswell.
The end goal is to have a AWD twin turbo hopefully (though i may try a single turbo application depends on space etc) manual 2nd gen magna, with a top of the line diamante interior (to keep a factory apperance) also with the body religned with sound deadener to keep it quiet on the inside. basically a home built alternative to some of the top of the line euro sedans
Thank you
Jake

go to a import wrecker, take a tape measure with you and measure up a galant vr4, similar in size to the magna, aswell measure up a lancer gsr you never know if you dont try.

Just measure the distances between the mounting points for the rear carrier, and the length of the arms. Dont worry to much about the driveshafts or the tailshaft they are easy enough to be made, or even have a look at a gto/3000gt might have a bit of luck there!

i am aware of that, i plan on using something of the like, just need to keep my eye out for wrecked AWD mitsubishi's, i suspect though that the chassis on a VR4 galant is considerably narrower than a 2nd gen magna,
I'm having enough trouble finding a 3000gt TT front cut for the right price (there was one in the trading post this week for $4000 one of the best i've seen yet, though i have seen a complete N/A 3000gt/GTO for sale for $9900) so finding a wrecked car for the rear is going to be a bit of a challenge, the other alternative is looking for a Wrecked 3rd gen AWD

yeah its really quite easy, costs around 20k tho

sell your old car for 10 and buy a newer awd for 30.

jake im looking at doing the same, i was hoping for awd diamante floor plan, have to import one but the 1st gen ones should weld straight up, just get it engineered --> insurance.... big dollars

one of the issue's with a AWD diamante and 3000GT/GTO rear end is they run 4 wheel steer and i am not exactly sure on how it is all controled, how well it works on the mitsubishis or how easy it would be to disable it and still have the rear suspension perform at its best, when i get a good chance to have a look at one i will let you know, i'm not ruling them out completely but it is one thing i have on my mind.

Yeah it would be cheaper to sell your car and by an awd, the cost of a conversion like this is outrageous.

Did we ever get a concrete answer about the rumor of an evo 6-speed box being a direct bilt-in to an AWD TJ?

If it does, I would think that would be the best solution.
TJ AWD
Evo 6-speed box
TT or Sprintex

hmm - it's nice to dream.
