Hi yall,
I want to get 2 of the 800W 12" kenwood subs, but i don't know wat mono amp to get. there is a 1100W amp, a 1700W amp & a 1800W amp. which of them would be fine.
I also want to get the 200W 6.5" in front & 400W 6"x9" at the back. would the 640W 4 channel amp be fine with it.
One last question. will the factory battery be enough to power all that stuff. Will i be needing a capacitor or an extra battery. please note that i will be needing around 500W more for the carputer and some other electonics.
Thanks for your help

As a rule of thumb dont worry to much about the power ratings on speakers... subs can be a little different depending on what your running and what your aims are...
... what kinda system are you trying to build? what music do you listen to? What kinda sound are you after? these are all important questions when designing any system?
Also what is your budget? Why do you want Kenwood all the way?
Good Luck building this monster...

I mainly listen to Rap, Hiphop & RNB. I would like to go kenwood because i could them for a low price. The subs for around $50 each, the 4 channel amp for around $100 and so on. the whole system would cost me less than $500. Besides, I heard them kick it and they rock. Anyways is the above setup fine, will the 1100W mono amp be enough for the 2 800W subs, and will i need extra batteries or caps???

Just been on the Kenwood website and the 1100w mono is really a 300w amp (and thats a a fairly high 0.5% distortion rate) the other power figures they quote arent tested at uniform standards...
...neway if you can get all that stuff CHEAP i guess its a fine system - plenty of bang for your buck no doubt! And Yes the 1100w (hehehe) amp will run your subs no probs (as long as u dont try and blow your rear screen out to every track (but then ud kill those subs first neway!))
If youve heard the setup and your happy with it good luck to you!
I know lots of ppl on here dont like kenwood all for there own different reason but at the budget end of the tree youll find they have plenty of fans too!
Also if your just running the 4ch and the sub amp you shouldnt need caps, extra batteries etc.. your stock electrics should be just fine

How do you mean you need another 500w for a carputer and other electronics?

the computer requires 200-250W, maybe 2 or 3 LCDs and a PS2, well around 300W intotal, but to be on the safe side.
kenwood may not be the best sounding, but it is the best priced (and its not that bad after all) Xplod costs atleast double the price if not more.
I just wanted to make sure of the power ratings, should i connect both subs in parallel or series (they r 4 ohms and max power of 800W each). info on the mono amp is here:
http://www.kenwoodeurope.com/products/ListProduct.aspx?k1=2&k2=18&k3=59&pr=1820
Can u please help me.
oohh dear
must u reaaally go towards kenwood and xplod????
im pretty sure you're quoting max power figures there, so first up, yes, your car's power supply will be able to handle everything, unless there's something wrong.
the sub and mono amp package you are thinking about getting are fine. the amp will power the subs. dont worry about getting a 4ch., just get a 2ch, and with the money u save, get splits up front instead of 6.5" coaxials or whatever. trust me, it will make a big difference. 6x9s in the rear....if u must :doubt:

.
So you need a power invertor for that

See those power figures you are quoting they are max power figures (complete bull**** rating and if you actually gave this 200 watt speaker 200 watts RMS you'd destroy the speaker and send the cone and voice coil into orbit before you could hit the stop button)
Cheap stuff rate their gear in this MAX power rating as it sounds "cooler" and wow look i have a 1000 watt sub/amp combo, when really its like 200 watts rms.
Their will be nothing wrong with the system FOR THE MONEY YOUR SPENDING, but you could save up a few hunderd more bucks and get something decent.
Infact please, save up some more cash and buy something decent... TIM help me out here, tell the poor guy to save up some more money lol
And to asnwer your other question, factory battery will be fine and you shouldnt need a cap as long as all your grounding is good and your ground wires are nice and fat :p

Save up some more money :P
I'm probably not the best point of contact for budget audio... There are a few ppl on here that know the market better... ebay helps.. Try and save up and spend right on each component in a way that you'll see and hear ur progress. Eg headunit, then front splits, then amp for front splits, then sub to go on the amp.
Or headunit - sub/4channel amp, splits, etc...
Peace
Tim

or what i like to do, when something really cool comes up 2nd hand for cheap, you buy it straight away without even thinking about it because its such a cheap bargain.
Then you get to play with it in your room for a few weeks before you figure out what to do with it.

*Tim looks at Ascensions inverter... lol I've used it once...
Thats my philosophy too, always have some money for spending on random things. Every single part of my audio, not including the plugs/wiring/little things I've gotten cheap.

thanks guys for ur replies.
Well the computer has a special DC-DC (OPUS) power supply (link below), the LCDs use 12V DC. The PS2 will need an inverter for sure.
bout the budget, i still did save for the current setup, and it would be difficult to save more money. Besides I'll be getting the parts piece by piece, therefore its better to plan earlier.
I live in Dubai, the most common brands for car audio are pioneer, sony and kenwood. Pioneer & kenwood cost almost the same, sony goes to double. Other brands such as JL, MTX and all other cost atleast 3-4 times as much as kenwood, so i think i'll go with the last.
Regarding power ratings, i know they are the MAX. the mono amp has 300W at 4ohm & 550W at 2 RMS. the subs are 300W RMS each.
I think i got what i needed to know. anyways what do u mean by splits (does in mean component speaker with separate tweeters) i was thinking of ditching the 4 channel for 2 channel, as the computer only supports 2 channel stereo, and there wont be any difference between front & rear. what do you think??
