Hi - i got me a stocky 97 verada - which is great for a spongy barge! (jk it aint so bad)

Heres what i was wondering...
... Firstly whats the best way to tie her down a lil more so i can actually corner at speeds slightly quicker than a diesel gemini, without ending up in the passanger seat? I kinda wanna keep a reasonably comfortable ride (no track use) and ive been told to get progressive rate springs? Ne brands/model numbers to look for? Making her sit lower would be a plus too...

Also i reckon a CAI, Catback Exhaust (NO CANNONS!!!) etc would be beneficial? Any advice on the way to go here... im not after massive numbers just more throttle response...a little surge kinda feeling when i open her up.

Finally is it worth looking at piggy back chips and the like? I have no intention of porting and polishing, balancing etc... (as yet...unless ne 1 can convice me its worth doing???) If chipping is the go whats the best option for these magna's? Simething to bolt on, hide away but do the business???

Basically im after advice on budget conscious light aftermarket tuning...any takers???

Thanks
Alex

(PS im tring to keep it as conservative looking as poss. boring as hell but keeps me outta trouble that way!)

I definitely can vouch for the strut brace, worth the money IMO, but you will get it much, much cheaper than that I paid $170 brand new (Whiteline) but they have gone up a little in price since then. Ask Anthony in the Phillcom Rally section.

I got a redback exhaust system cat back that I am very pleased with the results and the sound $340 (from Midas)

I also have a GReddy EManage fitted and installed for $1200... too much money with average results (9+kw-atw)... unless you are going turbo or something a Unichip or similar will probably suffice.

Check out this page while you are at it ;)

Thanks guys...strut brace goes straight to the top of the list!
So the Greddy doesnt justify its price tag for light tune apps? Kewl thats 1 to strike off the list

Cheers

Sorry to be a pain - but can someone tell me more about the CAI with K&N panel filter? What do i have to mod on the factory airbox (or plumbing) once the panel filter is in to make it a CAI?

As said above, strut brace will help, but I'd also recommend getting a rear sway bar. If that doesn't do justice for ya, get the front sway bar replaced as well. New shocks would also help keep the balance, most people here use KYB's because they are reasonably priced and perform quite well.

Check out the 3rd Gen FAQ page for more information.

Most straight through mufflers will bring out the extra air for the engine and is one of the best (and cheap) mods you can do. The OEM muffler design is really restrictive. Most people here use the Redback system, Lukey and Magnaflow. A bored out throttle body will also help the throttle responsiveness.

If you're only looking at light mods in the long run, then you're better off getting the cheaper Unichip option. If you're doing bigger mods like change of cam profile or even going forced induction then you'd want to use a GReddy eManage or the Haltech E6k piggy back system, or you could always go full out...

Join the minority club, I'm one of those too :)

I would go:

1: Search function.

2: Pacemaker extractors.

3: Lukey Muffler.

4: K&N Panel filter.

5: King spring lows front and rear.

6: Front strutbrace.

7: Upgrade your brake fluid to Motul dot5.1 I think it is, and your brake pads.

You dont need to chip it unless you want to get semi serious, otherwise that would be a good list to start from to make more horses and handle better, and it would'nt be over the top or look at me type stuff.

boys, I got a 98 wagon that desparately needs something done to it. I really want it lowered and from search results, it seems maybe kings superlows for the front and either kings lows or verada lows on the back would suit?
Any difference in lowering a wagon?
How much would they charge at a mechanics/tyre joint?
I'm fairly mechanically minded, could I do it myself?
Would my insurer have a whinge?
Cheers
