Is the oldest model 3rd gen a TE?

Whats the difference between the 3.0L and the 3.5L, the 3.5Ls start in the TH's right?

I mean, is the 3.0L the normal v6 and the 3.5 the sports model or something like that?
Whats the difference in power they make?

Thanks.

3.5L was an option in the TH. It might have been available in the KE or KF verada, or I could be talking crap ;)

Either way, the last of the 3L engines had 140kW, and the first batch of 3.5L engines put out 147kW peak power. The biggest difference was in peak torque though, with the 3L being somewhere around the 260Nm mark and the 3.5L topping 300Nm.

I'm sure someone knows the exact numbers, otherwise I'll look it up later :D

yes the 3.5L was first available in the 1996 KE. Not available in the Magna until the 1999 TH range.
No the 3.5L was never a designated sports motor. Designated luxury motor i guess (only available in the Verada from 1996-1998). TE and TF Sports were still only 3.0L's.

3rd gen 3.0L = 255Nm torque and 140kW
first 3.5L (1996-2000) in 3rd gens = 300Nm and 147kW

All Sports models before the TJ series were just suspension and interior feature enhancements (power windows, trim, etc).

The TJ Sports, like the TJ VR-X got a straight through rear muffler and hence 163kW vs the 150kW (series 1) or 155kW (series 2) of the lower models.

Thanks.

A few more questions (dont think theyll ever stop)

Is their much performance difference between the auto and manuals?
I would rather prefer a manual, but their rarer/more expensive.

Yes there is quite a difference in performance b/w manual and auto especially in the eariler models (4spd non tiptronic) I had a TE manual with a bit of work done and it was quite fast. Wait out for a manual as early autos arent the most reliable around.

wouldnt recomend auto. ive driven both, auto is by no means sluggish, but manual i find is alot better. IMO.
but dont forget, its only a magna lol

I love my Manual.. It feels great to drive apart from the clunky 5 speed..
I have a TE Executive and it is a very potent package.. No Luxury Cons ( Apart from Air con) to weigh it down.. 6g72 is just Bliss to drive with the Manual box behind it..

Get a short shift kit. Made quite a big difference in my TE also got rid of any play in the shifter.

Im trying to decide on a new car, and it seems that a 3rd gen will win being the cheapest and most pratical.

How much work would a 3rd gen manual need to beat a stock VT SS?

Just the look on my mates face when a V6 magna beats his beloveded SS would be the most pricless moment ever, the kid would start crying.

Performane terms is their much difference once a few basic mods are done between the 3.0 and the 3.5?

Thanks for the help guys youve helped out alot

You are going to need a manual.. a 3.0litre with Cold Air Intake, Airfilter and Full Exhaust with Extractors to beat an Auto Stock SS...

a Late Model 3.5 Litre Manual with Airfilter and a Rear muffler replacement should do the trick..

a fully modded manual of Both , their isn't much in it...

Ask Some of the Guys who have 3.5 litre and 3litre time slips to post their results...

Series 1 or Series 2 VT?

If it's the series 2 VT then it has the Gen III, and well...you'll need a bit more work then said above :D
