I put a 3 yr old Pioneer CD player in my ’96 TE the other day. Aside from the speaker wires, I found a red, orange, blue, and black wire in the dash. I assumed red was power and connected to red on the Pioneer unit. I assumed orange was for constant power to keep radio presets, clock and CD position and connected this to a yellow wire on the unit. Blue I assumed was something to do with an automatic aerial which I don’t have, so I didn’t connect it to anything. Black is the earth of course. These assumptions were based on reading docs on the Net. Well, all works fine except for the constant power, which doesn’t work at all. I didn’t properly test it before I put it all back together which I guess means ripping it all apart on the weekend again. But anyway, what’s the problem? Has the Scotch lock not properly connected the orange to yellow wire? Or does the Blue wire come into this somehow? Or something else again? Thanks!

head to Dick Smith's pick yourself up a $30 multimeter... (they always come in handy anyway) and take some voltage readings on the wires that you have with the ignition off, ignition on etc then you'll be able to work out which wire does what without any confusion
