hey my mate has just bought his first car a 93 tr and he wants a fairly descent system he said in the first place but is it dodge to buy stuff from the states cause what he is looking at is stuff off onlinecaraudio.com i think he wants a boss mono block 3000 watt amp running an alpine type x 12" with an 0 gauge power kit do you think it would be a good idea to buy from there because theyre prices are low compared to over here in australia even after you change the currency so if anyone could help me and my mate out that would be great cheers.

You have to remember if you buy overseas, your goods (over a certain value) need to go through customs, and on the purchase price (includig shipping) you need to pay 10% GST, and also possibly a 5% Import Tax.. Not to mention a fee for lodging forms with customs, or a customs broker.
If you want to go international, I would suggest www.audio-warehouse.com
I have recently purchased a whole heap of stuff through them, and the shipping company they use handle all your customs clearance as well which is great (BAX Global). Takes about 2 weeks in total to your door.
To give you an idea..
For a few subs, a couple of amps and a pair of splits it cost just over $200 for shipping.. and about $300 for gst and taxes/fees.. the original order was around US$2000

isnt most the stuff on there pretty crap though because most of the stuff ive seen is brands ive never heard off and when there is brands thay charge like 400dollars for a 12" alpine type r last years model !!! and you can buy them for 300 dollars on the gold coast but do you think we should take the risk

i got my alpine mono block amp off eBay, after tax+shipping it was still about $100-$200 cheaper than what i could find here.
shhhh... i never wrote that
hint, to avoid import tax, have it sent as a repaired item ;)
beware of people knocking on ur door tonight!
dude, u could try 2nd hand, on CAA...

I personally avoid online Car audio stores simply as it is much easier to take a Product back to a store then sending it off to some place where you may never see your amp again..
Car audio stores actually give you a demo of what stock you are interested in, something I have yet to see an online store offer..
