View Full Version : Adjust Cruise Control????

I heard that some cruise control systems can have their sensitivity adjusted.
I took a new VZ away on the weekend and the cruise systems in the holden are great. The rest of the car is still in the dark ages even the new alloytec(ecotec re-badged i recon). The cruise system is so much more responsive than the Magna/Verada system. Go up a hill and it is instantly accelerating unlike the Mitsub where you have to drop 5 to 10km/h before they decide to do anything.
A mate said that some can be adjusted to combat this problem. Does anyone know of this?
Thanks.

My KJ does pretty ok, can feel it powering up after dropping just 1-2km/h up slopes.
(was driving 100km/h on cruise when checking the speedo with a handheld K-band radar)

The vz commodore is a drive by wire system, they use a solenoid to actuate the throttle.
theres no comparison to a cable throttle.
You probably would have noticed the throttle a lot more touchy in the dunnydore than in a magna

Um.. no the alloytec is not the ecotec rebadged; far from it. You're talking an alloy block engine that is designed pretty much from the ground up and is modular in that it can be scaled to V8 or S4 configurations, and with either VVT on inlet + outlet or just inlet, plus planned for forced induction. Very high tech engine.

Yes, but I hate driving my dad's work dunnydore. so many problems that the dealers cant fix, and they cant make up decent excuses for them. Anyway, ON TOPIC, the cruise control in my TS is great. V6 manual. Speed drops about 5km before it accellerates again

Yeah i know the alloytec is a whole new motor. Was only kidding. The reason i said that was because in my opinion there is next to no improvment over the ecotec. The only difference is that they rev out to nearly 7000rpm 1000 more than the ecotec.
I recon most people couldnt pick the differerence between the two if they didnt know what was under the hood. They sound the same, feel the same and are both as harsh as eachother when reved hard. The 175 alloytec doesnt seem to of lived up to the hype they gave it.
I have to say though that the 190kw version is a gem. Had one in a brand new Statesman for a week. That thing really got up and moved even for a larger heavier car. The 5 speed was also a gem, much nicer than the Mitsub tranny. Have a few short vids of the dash of the Statesman when pushed hard. One is 11meg and one 23 and dont have anywhere to put them.
Even the old VY's etc had a much more responsive cruise system being cable driven than the system in the Mitsub.

My cruise control on the TF Exec works fine. When its on and theres a hill, it keeps the same speed with almost no loss of speed.
<3 Cruise control. Couldnt live without it now.

I agree. In my opinion the cruise control on the Commodores (VR ~ VZ's) are far superior then the ones on our Magna's, theres little to no speed difference when on an incline, compared to our cruise control where it takes the computer a short moment before realising we're on a hill and by then i'd have dropped momentum already.
Oh and I like their cruise control status indicators, tells you when its active, not just if its 'on'.

Thats why I like the cruise in my 2nd gen. There is an orange light on the switch when its on standby, then the green 'cruise' on the day whilst its cruising

my tf has the on light then the "cruise" comes up on the dash to say its activated
mine only varies about a needle thickness when going up n down hills

Ok, thought about this last night:
Shorten the distance between the CRS control unit and the TB. This will reduce the amount of pressure needed by the control unit to actuate cruise mode. Also try a smaller diameter tube ensure that it wont collapse once warmed up and vacuum is applied under CRS operation.
Tell me what you learn.

That site has a 10 meg limit. Video's are over that limit.
