Ok, I have been issued a Challenge..
" how to Build a Sub enclosure for a Dual Cab Rodeo that fits Behind the Back seat"
So far the enclosure has been constructed I am going to use one or Two Pioneer 6 inch woofers from their low End splits now Here are 3 Questions I need your input on..
1. Should I use One or Two woofers as I am not sure if I should use one woofer and use Maximum Enclosure space or Two Woofers to use Double the cone space?? ( Both Woofers will be in the One Chamber)
2. If I use one woofer , should I mount it Centrally or to one end?? Since it isn't going to be seen but heard which do you think would work best ???
3. Should I power one woofer and just install the other like a Passive Bass Radiator???

What you are talking about is not a real subwoofer.
The main driver from a pair of splits does not play sub bass low frequencies like a subwoofer does.
And these frequencies from the drivers are still pretty directional.
So i think you are complety wasting your time, especially if you are using low end drivers.
Go buy an 8" sub or something like that.
Yeah,
Go buy some of the new 8" slimline subs pioneer has put out.

if your interested in a pre-fab box (some are, some arent)... pioneer has a subbox to suit a ute...honestly speaking..its not very big..but thats the draw back of having a truck like that i guess...some people mount a 12 between the 2 seats. not sure if it would fit though for a rodeo...Better of getting some dimensions behind the seats and chatting to some audio peeps

Only got one problem with that.. an 8 incher won't fit..
a 6x9 won't fit depth is like 7 cm
The Enclosure is
17cm x 7cm x 90 cm
Even the mounting depth from a 6.5 inch Jaycar Subwoofer is too deep hence why I have to use a Shallow mount woofer, consider it like a " Superwoofer" not quite like a sub but enough to provide Low end response that the 4 inch Splits in the doors cannot provide... The Owner wants the Cabin Stock to keep it from getting broken into and since it is a 4x4 that rules out under seat installations as the Vechile is often used for 4x4ing so mud gets all through the cabin except for behind the rear seat..
Looked at Pioneer's new slim line 12 inch subs, but at 12cm depth they wont fit..
Now you can see why it is a challenge
17x7x90...damn
these should fit

Magnat a subwoofer playes frequencies below 80hz.
The 6.5 driver from splits plays frequencies ABOVE 80hz, you know about high pass and low pass on the amps?
You low pass a sub at 80hz and it gets the frequencies below that sent to it and you high pass splits at 80hz and all the frequencies above 80hz get sent to the splits.
A cheap pair of splits could prob play only above 100hz, so you see its a complete waste of time.
If you try to send the sub bass frequencies towards the 6.5" drivers youll destory them for sure.
So unless you can get a real subwoofer in their dont bother doing it at all
Go for a shallow mount woofer.

Well the Enclosure and Pioneer 6 inch woofer has standed up to 35 W RMS and plays as low as 70 Hz ( Courtesy of Bass Mekaniks 5 Test CD)
I mean it is not as if it is going to be installed into the Boot of a Sedan, it will be in a Dual Cab Ute..So far so Good.. I will post up Pics when it is Finally complete

It is a midbass driver. As has been said, it will not play sub bass frequencies. So shouldnt be looked at as any type of subwoofer. It will need to be highpassed around 60 hz minimum to avoid distortion. More like 100 hz to avoid distortion at any reasonable levels.
Look to a slimline sub, if you can fit two of these in, then you'll be able to fit a proper slimline in

It doesnt matter where it is installed.
It could be sitting right next to your ear, and your still not going to get any subbass out of it because has to be high passed at around 80-100hz or else its going to blow/distort like crazy.
You say it can play as low as 70hz... my subwoofer is lowpassed at 70hz, which means my subwoofer only plays frequencies below 70hz.
If your setting this up just to get some more midbass, then go ahead as I like alot of midbass just as much as subbass.
But if your looking to get any real bass out of it, then you have to be joking yourself.

Low extension is way outta the question,it is a 6 inch woofer, not a 6 inch sub woofer, it is just designed to play the notes that the 4 inch 2-ways in the doors cannot handle..
It has as much bass as a 6 inch woofer can put out..
I just rigged it up to my Magna and because of the 6.5 inches in the front doors it cannot be heard over them.. So consider it more like a PC Super woofer, small cone in an enclosure to boost low frequencies not as a Subwoofer...
I am now thinking I may mount a 6x9 in its place and see if the lower frequencies cannot be made to go lower... Your thoughts are welcomed.

As long as u know what to expect then should b fine.
I'd go the mids over the 6x9s, are u going to bandpass them though? Otherwise u'll be getting dull high frequencies that the mid is producing coming through.
Not bad for the speaker (natural roll off will take car of it anyway) but might not be the effect ur after.
Pioneer make some awesome 6x9's otherwise if the budget is there.

I honestly think you should get a shallow mount subwoofer, the difference will be so much better then what your doing now.
But in the end its upto you.

Good Old Aldi 6x9 to the rescue..
I had a Spare Tevion 6x9 so I have now modified it to fit...
So Now I have Crossed off the 3-way part so now only the woofer works..
So far the Results are suprising...
It was just shallow enough to fit..
So I have notified the owner and in 2-weeks I will be able to find out if it will fit or not... Heres hoping !!
If my Budget solution works then good, If it hasn't then I will re-modify the Enclosure to a Money box that will except notes and use it for that ....
Besides, all I am trying to do is help a mate out..The Wood I used was left overs from my last enclosure, the woofers used were just lying around so really it is only time I have lost if it doesn't work out.
