Hey all,
I'm a n00b to subs so be nice :P
I'm looking to get 1x12" Pioneer sub to go with my system as follows:
Amps: Two Jaycar 2x100WRMS
Deck: Pioneer DEH-P1Y
Fronts: Pioneer TS-A6980S 6x9
Parcel Shelf: Pioneer TS-E1695 6.5"
Autobarn has this sub on special for $179 in a box... Is it worth it and what sort of amp would I need to power it?

Cheers guys :D

from my knowledge, id say atleast a 400watt rms mono block amp
and it sounds like a good price/deal

The pioneer 12" in prefab box sells from jb and wow cheaper then that, and the good thing with the pioneer subs is they dont need alot of power to sound good. But be warned if you want big bass dont use that sub/box combo. The are more punchy then boomy.

Sweet. So by not much power, do you mean that I could just bridge one of the 2 channels that I've got now, and buy a 4 channel for the speakers?
Would that be enough power? I don't want huge bass, just enough to give the little thump in your chest lol , and to add a little more overall.

that should be OK. depending on what your current amp is..

Ive had my singe 12 running on as little as 80wrms in a sealed box and the still did the job
best suggestion would be to get a CLASS D amp to power the sub and a 2 channel CLASS A for the fronts. I bought the kicker 1x400wrms CLASS D amp to run mine. I'm using it in a ported box atm and it got 129.1db. which aint to bad considering its a $100 jaycar box and a 5 year old sub with crappy wiring

I've got a 2ch 100WRMS Response (Jaycar) which I would use to power it

That will do the trick nicely..
Usually I don't go for Sub and Enclosure packages as the Woofer is not necessarily in the best enclosure..
I prefer buying the sub then making the enclosure as instructed by the TSP of that woofer..

I just rang them and they said that it's a new design box. Approx 1 cubic foot  Is that good or bad.. lol
He said that it would probalby need around 400WRMS to be any good too? True/false?

400W RMS would be if you wanted to push it to its limits.. It would be quite happy with 150W RMS..
1 Cubic ft is the standard size for the Average Sealed enclosure.. so its not too bad but I am not sure what size Pioneer recommends for the selected woofer..

ive always believed that getting a mono amp (which i believe to be best for the sub) to atleast level power output rms or over. doesnt mean u need to thrast it, just means better quality right?
having said that i had 600w rms with 2 subs and only ran 350watts rms into them and they were awsome. so i guess it depends on what u want to pay i suppose. either wil be alright

Having more power when it comes to subs means you have more control and do not have to stress your system out when it drops bottom...It can increase Bass quality..
