Vortex , Ultimate and Optimax
Vortex = 95 RON
Ultimate = 98 RON
Optimax = 98 RON
Shell Premium = 95 RON??
What about shell premium unleaded ist that 95 RON as well.
Which is better of the above?

many here says these premium ones are the best, getting better kms, or smoother etc... i was using the optimax 6 month ago, when it was around 105c mark, now regular unleaded is approbaching 1.30 paying 1.40 just doesnt justify it i think, as my car runs pretty good on the regular stuff anyway

You won't get a benifit from using high RON fuel for the extra dollers economy wise. You won't magically gain power from it unless you have a second gen V6.

Caltex Vortex... It helps if you work for Woolworths..
No need to spend the extra to get the discount..

I buy it, not so much for an expected gain but more in hope that it is a cleaner quality fuel... well I have no testing equipment, but I would like to believe that it has higher QA to go with it... incidently my car never fails and gives me no troubles (touch wood) no matter how much stick I give it... I do notice the difference when I drop back to regular in general performance.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I'm not too sure if I get any gains because up until now I have used Optimax or Ultimate mainly cos it's cleaner and I know I'll be getting a quality fuel with less crap in it. I've been doing this since I had my KR and I've never had a problem.
I won't touch caltex since I got a bad batch in Taree once. I probably wouldn't use any of those discount no name brand petrol stations if they were the last ones on earth. Back in our wild and reckless youth we once bought a tank cos it was significantly cheaper only to find that we got over 100kms less than our usual mileage from standard unleaded. I just hope we didn't do any damage to the engine. Using these places is a false economy because you get so much less for your money.

:badgrin: No i'm with you here, Ultimate is a lot better than Optimax. Optimax just sucks, There’s no difference for me between Optimax & any regular 91 (Only $$) :rant:

my mate has a Microtech ECU in his ET, tuned for 98RON. He always uses BP Ultimate, cos once he was forced to fill up with Optimax...... car ran like a dog. proof enough for me!

I'm not wrong. I used to get an increase from Optimax too then one day it stopped. Even when I got 50 - 70km's extra from the tank, it did not justify the added cost.
Which car of yours does this trip?

well it works out cheaper for me to fill with BP Ulitmate than premium of any brand as i get the extra 100kms per tank out of it, to get that extra milage it would cost me 10L of fuel at $1.40 when i can pay for a full tank at only 5c p/L more and only cost me about 3 dollars a tank more, $10 a fortnight soon adds up
