Hey All,

My TE died on Sunday

After checking the obvious side of things on Sunday afternoon (spark, fuel etc) I had to get it towed to the nearest garage (they couldn't find anything wrong either) got a call from the Auto electrician this afternoon saying that the Computer will need to be changed as it is sending the wrong signals to the injectors and too much fuel is being delivered, all up I'm being charged $350 for the comp + labour... Is $350 a fair price for the comp?

What a strange problem..

I'd be happy with $350 for the comp.. sounds reasonable to me.

Yeah I thought so as well...

See I was at the lights and went to take off, the car jumps forward and a crunch noise from the engine bay was heard followed by what sounded like a snapping noise? I thought it was a cable snapping at first, but yeah... very weird indeed...

Sounds a bit suspicious to me. What you describe sounds more mechanical, or maybe a broken belt. Maybe they are bullsh*ting to justify the high cost.

sounds fishy to me as well. A new computer for $350? You're laughing! Considering you will need a new Body Electronics Module and Security module to mate up as well, and the mechanic needs a MUT-II to program them all up together...

It felt mechanical, but they said if changing the comp doesn't do anything they won't charge me, but still...

Get someone to check the dizzy, specially for the discolorition on the plastic plate under the cap.It should be black all over, any trace of a blue or purple mark means burnt curcit board.Symptoms fits the bill.New $1300 second hand $250-300.
