Hey everyone
Im looking at car alarms at the moment, and just wondering if anyone know of a good trust worthy brand etc. Looking for one that covers all doors, boot and bonnet, and possiably windows also. Remote start feature would be pretty cool also.

Thanx in advance

$995  Something about that site that looks dodgy for some reason, the image of that hand held unit looks hand drawn and the english and grammar is terrible. Have you got one?

This one looks pretty good from Strathfield

I might consider one of these myself.

black widows are great alarms. Along with mongoose and viper!

i have questioned the Black Widow one when i was at strathfield last. He said there can be problems using your stock siren... probably best to use the optional B-W siren...its also alot louder. They are an Extra $50 and the total package fitted is around $400.... i will be considering this when i have the cash to do it..otherwise the stock mitsu horn beep will have to do :P northfield has some wikkid alarm displays..go check em out.

Just another thing when alarms say stuff like " boot release etc etc etc " dont think " wow ive just got the lever in the cabin..thats handy " some options require additional parts so quiery it all when u go to buy one.

Hope this helps

Adding remote start to a transponder based factory immobiliser seriously compromises the security of your car (and will likely void your insurance policy for theft coverage). When you go to reputable brands remote start typically adds a considerable cost too. Anything made by DEI would be best in my books (Viper, Clifford etc and all the other subsiduaries).

The Talking Viper Alarm Rocks
" Stand back this Vehicle is protected by Viper " or the touch sensitive ones, where if you went within 1cm of the duco the alarm would beep a warning to protect your ride from coin scratches and the like..

yeh ive got a black widow alarm.. im happy with it... its a factory upgrade so i use my normal mitsu remote.. but i optioned for a new siren with backup cause i think having only the cars horn as a siren is not the best

I think a would be robber would die of fits of laughter if I had an alarm going through my horn... the one thing I am too embarrassed to use on my car lol

They're not touch sensitive, they're promixity sensing. It's a microwave sensor addon module that can be adapted to any alarm that has a warn-away trigger wire.

We've had Black Widows in all our cars up until the VRX. They're great alarms. I just couldn't justify fitting one into the VRX since the security system is already pretty good. I miss the beeps that acknowledge you have turned on your alarm though. In bright light, 2-3 metres away, it hard to see your lights to tell you if you have locked/secured your car. I wish there was a way to get the beeps happening with the standard alarm.

I've got the AutoWatch Blueline alarm... it is connected to the doors, boot, bonnet and has the ultrasonics inside, so if someone taps on the window (or in the car!) it will go off. It has remote boot release, and also winds the windows up when arm the alarm (if u have power windows). Its one of those alarms that would go off if someone with a loud exhaust (like a Harley or something) drove past it, but you can get turn that off if u wanted to.

It doesn't have the remote start though.

I got mine installed for $500. Cheap as chips. The Laserline equivalent is about $900. The only difference between the two is that the Laserline has the option of calling your mobile phone when the alarm goes off, but the AutoWatch can do that aswell except you have to buy the extra plugin thing for it.

Mongoose M80S

Very good alarm.....
Window closers (power windows- my own add on), boot release (add on) bonnet, boot and door protection.
Auto immobilisation after 15 seconds I think?

And blue LED (well mine is coz I changed it!)
OH and black wiring! Thats whats important. So if thieves get into your car they will have a troubled time looking for any wires to cut, trying to disengage the alarm!
Although, they aint driving off with the car anyways as they would need the Car key first as it has the transponder in it, so the car aint starting.....

Well its a sweet alarm anyways
And all for $160!

I wasnt saying the alarm was going to stop them taking the car. Hek if they want the car that badly than they will probably get a flat bed and tow it away. What I said, is that they (thieves) would need the car keys to actually start the car as the key has a transponder, which is part of the immobilisation process. In relation to the Magna that is.

I dont know how your friends car got taken without the horn going off, so I feel for him. And maybe his civic didnt have a transponder in his key?

But maybe I didnt specify correctly, my car has all black wiring for the alarm, so a thief would find it hard to distinguish, what wire is which. etc

Im no expert, but my mongoose gives me peace of mind, so im happy with that.
And knowing that they cant start my car up, using hot-wiring or whatever, without my keys is relaxing. ( If im wrong about that then please let me know. I only read it somewhere.)

I had a car alarm a few years back... it worked fine but after a bad storm which had set it off one night I started to fiddle with the sensitivity setting and then it was worse... anyway... one night I wanted a quiet night with the GF... no interruptions... so i turned the alarm off.

Later, we were sitting there watching a movie and we heard a crash out side, I turned to my GF and jokingly said "Don't worry, that's just someone breaking into my car" lol and we continued watching the movie... well I doubt you really need to guess that I was actually right! car was broken into and gear stolen.

Moral of the story, if you have it, use it, and don't bloody fiddle with the damn thing lol

You said it all, if there's no one to hear the alarm sounding (and act upon it), the world's best alarm isn't going to help one bit).

Also, an alarm is only as good as how well it's installed.

LOL!

Not good!
What did they end up taking out of your car?

Did they smash the windows to get in?
Did they try to start the car?

Well, I guess its a good thing that your car wasnt taken as well and just your gear.

(By the way, any car alarm experts or car security techies out there that can confirm this? IF, in fact the transponder stops thieves from starting the car? Like without the key you wont even be able to hot-wire it? Is this correct? Just making sure thats all..)

True that!
Installation is the key point of an alarm (hiding the wires + the module) Hiding everything is crucial towards making your car alarm work at its best, thus making the alarm more protected itself, allowing protection and security for your car as well, being its main purpose. Which brings me to my point of all black wiring! :D :D

You can still hotwire a transponder protected car, you just need to bypass whatever circuit is immobilised by the transponder, through use of patch wires (comes through knowledge of that particular model of car that you're intending to steal).
