I just wired up my new deck and it is working fine. 8) As I was driving to work tonight (first time after install) the car would stall everytime i stopped. #-o It didn't cough and splutter it just died. It didn't even try to idle! As soon as the revs got to about 1200 the needle would face plant straight to zero . Any ideas on what I might have done wrong?

Another thing I would like to know,

When I hooke up the stereo I earthed it to the radio cradle (metal frame for mounting head unit). Was that right? The wasn't an earth in the wiring harness. Could this have anthing to do with the stalling?

Could the stalling be caused by a blocked/dodgy fuel filter or pump?

looks like ur ide speed controller needs resetting! i know you can get your local dealer to do it for ya...but im not sure if it will work by disconnecting ya battery for a few hours......maybe some one else can clarify is theres a way about resetting ISC without going to a dealership?

Also - your earth should be connected to the stereo cradle - as for memory - that doesn't touch anything metal??

look at changing the earthing points - my car coughed and spluttered when my amp was arcing out due to bad positioning of the fuse holder (don't ask!!)

Try a good solid earth point - then if it don't help - look at something else.

I had the same problem when MIDAS did a rego check and left on my lights. Battery went dead, got it jumped and kept dying. I drove around for ages and it stalled whenever I stopped. Took it back and he just drove it backwards and forwards, maybe 20 metres at the most each time. He did it with and without airconditioning on for about 10-15 mins, and that solved the problem.

Cheers

Mick

PS - 98 TF 3 litre auto it is

I had the same problem when my battery got changed over (warranty)

i just started and restarted it run it a bit and it seemed to fix is self,

only problem i guess is now that ive got a rough idle?

when i first start it, in the morning it runs at about 1200rpm

after i get to the end of my estate it jumps between 750 and 1000rpm
and about 10 more mins between 500 and 750rpm

any1 got ideas or should i just get it looked at? when i go in for a service on the weekend? :) hehe
(sorry to hijack) i hate when it happens to me

I dunno if its the problem, but thats definately a bad eathing point. I just used the original. On the KR, a wire hooks up from the car body to a bracket hole. I just wired mine straight to that wire. But, if you create a new earth, just make sure the get some emery (sp?) paper (its really rough sandpaper, for metal) and clean off any and all paint etc. Make sure its touching metal..

well oops, that was bigger than i had originally planned

Sorry i haven't replied for a few days.
The problem was a carbonated throttle body. Has nothing to do with the stereo, just occoured at the same time. Thanks for all your help though.

if thats the case is it worth upgrading to a 70mm oversized throttle body?

not quite sure about performance gains
or when its appropriate to do it tho.. :)

Mine cost $100 to have it bathed in acid to remove the carbon build up. feels alot smoother now that its wide open again.

I understand the ECU's are learning ones and adjust themselves to suit the engine and your driving style

If you had your battery disconnected for any length of time whilee installing (and it should be disconnected) your ecu may have lost its memory.
It would have gone back to factory settings and will take a little while to adapt.

I am not 100% sure that this is how the magna ecu's operate, if im wrong please tell me
