Hey guys.
I have a 03 Tj AWD with a unichip, K&N filter and 2.5 inch exhaust with a high flow cat and a GSR body kit. I am considering extractors, ajustable cam gears and an upgraded 65mm throttle body and was wondering if any one has had any experiance with the issue? Its good to finaly be a member!!

search and u will find alot of great info but ill give u an outline
u can flow ur stock one take out the restricive lip with a dremel or what not stock is 65mm
some ppl have been able to bore it out to 70mm- 71 mm and make up a butterfly ... but no one is willing to sell these yet
street torque do a dual 65mm tb set up which should come up with some info about as ctchulu just had one installed ( probably not the one ur looking for though )
also i know a few members have used a 70 mm falcon TB but u need an after market computer to by pass the air flow sensor .... another guy has dual s14 tb's aswell ......
*gasps for air :P
use the search tool and u should be able to find info on all of these

how did u get to 70 mm ? bored out the stock one ? or tb donour ? Manual got his back when RPW where still selling them. In fact I think he got the 2nd to last one ever made (by RPW that is).
Edit: Oh yeah, adjustable cam gears are likely to do squat with factory cams. I'm willing to bet MMAL dialed them in right already.

What power do you get at the wheels?

have fun getting your throttle body bored out. Now from some experience with getting this done, make sure you tell whoever is oding the work to:
1. bore it out but keep a small lip to seal the butterfly
2. only use a laser cut butterfly
expect to get around 69-70mm..

I guess that answers the question that keeps getting raised.

I get 112kw at the wheels and 338Nm

I would have thought you would be getting better than that... I have a TF 3.0 litre auto, GReddy EManage, Redback cat back exhaust, Extractors (more mods since the dyno) but at that time after the GReddy was installed I was pulling 123Kw at the wheels.
Edit: oh, I am assuming yours is 3.5

Ahh ok, that explains something, but wow, that much power loss... errg

Im not to concerned about power output at the moment, torque is where the funs at. there is more mods on the way so the power will come with it I guess.

Sorry, welcome to the forums mate by the way :D
but yeah, I have lots of torque also... most of my power is top end... most of my mods have killed lower end... hi-flowing the throttle body helped with mine, but it needs something else... I was wondering about a FPR... anyway, this is not my thread.

Thanks for the welcome. Its just so good to talk to people about cars and not have holden or ford mentioned. I used to have a 3.0TF. great car but I love the AWD.

We don't swear that often ;) lol ahh we do get on to talking about the other folk, but yeah, this is where it's at for all things Magna/Verada/Diamante.
Anyway back on topic, I high flowed my throttle body myself and did get small gains... oversizing used to be done but they were having issues with the butterfly and having the right people to do it.
This was a page I wrote up on it at the time.. I am not saying you should do it yourself but that is what I did
My DIY Throttle Body Page (http://neilk.customer.netspace.net.au/hiflowtb/throttle.htm)
Note: I take no responsibility if anyone decides to use this as a guide and tries it themselves. I just wrote it as my own project.

yeah well ill let everyone know if that works. Place doing my tb machined every possible bit off so there was nothing left to make a lip. Makes me question how anything bigger than 70mm would be possible. Might be able to get a little bit more out by machining the throttle body as a oval rather than a circle but thatd b lot harder to work with.
Anyhow, place is now metal filling along where the butterfly is going to sit and making a new butterfly with even better tollerance. We'll see if that works on thursday :S

The problem it seem is everyone trying to make there TB's oversize are using standard lathes and just boreing them straight thru. When i did my 2 experimental units just recently, i used our companys CNC machining centre to enlarge the TB's throat size AND keep it offset so that the throttle shaft is still directly in the middle of the throat, it takes abit longer but the results have been worth in my opinion.
Yes its also much better to get the butterfly laser cut.

Hahaha... somehow I think you'd be well down the growing list. From what I understand it's a painful process and it's unlikely of more being done. There are other TB options available though.

Mate ive had plenty of guys asking to buy it, im looking into the costing of doing a run of 70mm TB's but i have to do them in a batch to make it worthwhile for all the rooting around that is involved, plus i wouldnt let any go out with out being tested on my car to make sure it idles correctly etc etc.
That in itself cause a problem cos my car is a manual so auto/traction control ones would be out unless i could get hold of a donor/test car.

nevertheless - my EOI still stands. No pressure - but if you are going to do a batch I'll almost certainly take one off your hands. Traction control I don't care about, and I may be willing to consider loosing cruise control.

Ya wont lose any of those features. The cruise control still works on mine, its just that the traction control throttle bodys TPS switch is on the opposite side of the throttle body and work in reverse to the NON traction control units so for me to test them on my car is hard, plus i dont really wanna be pulling my car to bits all the time to test units.
I think you guys understand thats its not a major job to pull a TB off but doing it 10times in a row to check if things work is just a pain.

sorry to spam but if you are thinking of loosing your cruise, contact me first! :D
I'm now thinking of doing my TB and CAI myself, simply for better fuel economy.
Doesn't sound too hard, can anyone give some information on the advantages and approximate gains in performance, economy, induction noise of doing TB, pod and CAI all together?
Cheers,
Danno
