Ive had my carputer and system in for about 4 months now, and even though its still no where near complete (will it ever be?) I think its about time I post up here and show you what I have been getting upto.

Ill start with the sub, My Phoenix Gold Titanium.
Being powered by an Earthquake PH 500.1
I love this thing, goes loud enough to rattle your bones yet being in the sealed box it never misses a beat and listening to a song like "smack my ***** up - prodigy" it can put a smile across your face from ear to ear :D

Next thing to do with this is build a 2 cubic foot box for it.

What good is a big sub without SD?
My boot use to rattle and flex like it was going out of fashion.
Bout 30 dollars of bostik SD and cheap heat gun from supercheap auto and its rock hard.

Next up are the Focal 165v2
GREAT splits, but my installation is craptaculor, when i get some time im pulling the trims off, SD the whole door skin, applying that tar paint to the plastic door trims, making an MDF spacer so I can screw the drivers straight into the factory 6" position and get rid of these crappy pods.

Now for the carputer, well the switches. The top one is hooked up to a relay that powers the inverter which the Computer is hooked upto. The motherboard is set to auto on with AC.
The bottom switch is just for the amps.

Now for the screen, its a Xenarc 7" touchscreen.
I pulled out the centre console, hacked up the double din slot with a hacksaw, made a metal bracket that screws over the back of the screen holding it in place and use gaffa tape over the front to cover the silver face of the screen. Dodgey looking yes, but does the job and when i can get around to making it look better I will, but thats at the bottom of the list of things to do.

Now for some info bout the comps software, im running an nLite version of windows XP with Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) This redirects any data being written to the HD to a RAM overlay, letting me setup a Hibernate Once Restor Many (HORM).
In other words I can switch the comp off at any moment I want just by cutting the power or turning the car off withouth having to shutdown and when I turn it back on it boots up in 8 seconds and always straight back into the player (frodoplayer) ready for music.

And i think thats it. :D

mmmm...nice choice of sub brother!!

looks real good dude. You know, if you're like me and sometimes don't wear glasses while in front of a computer....it looks like you've made a custom fibreglass surround for your screen, and sprayed it with 2-pac so its all shiney :P

I guess this is a no-turning-back install now then huh. Did u make them fg doorpods? looks nice. angle 'em up, and make sure they aren't just sealed off at the back lol

apple is getting into teh carputer scene....someone's developing "iDash" they're trying to get an interface going between touchscreens and the new minimacs.

All I got to say is DAMN !!!!
Nice sub, nice splits, not sure about using a PC, would the motherboard not be subjected to shock and the circuit board subjected to heat ??

nice setup!

tell me more about the Hibernate Once Restor Many (HORM)!!!! i know there is another brand called the OPUS power supply that does the same thing. the power supply alone cost around AUD$130...

what pc specs do you have? where did you mount the pc? pics pics pics!! lol

Dont get rid of ur pods mate!

Pods rock, anything to get more angle on ur splits. think about deadening them or bracing them to make them stronger.

I'm interested in doing a car pc setup my self. Going to use an EPIA board and get one of those touch screens off ebay use an opus power supply rather than an inverter tho. Going around australia next year for a few months so have it set up then with mp3/movies/tv/gps/car diagnostics. Have you tried hooking it up to your cars diagnostics port? OBM-II or what ever they are called?

What hardware are you using? How much was the screen? Have u got gps going?

Well I can turn back the install pretty easy, go down to the wreckers and buy a centre console for bout 50 bucks, pull mine out and chuck in the other one.
I will do that when save up enough money for a new car, but with this hobby and my new found one (saving up for a nitro powered radio controled helicopter) I dont know when ill ever save up cash for a new car

The computer is in the boot next to the sub, i didnt take a pic of it cuz its UGLY! its just a normal pc tower lieing on its side lol. It is a micro atx board so one day ill buy a micro atx case for it.
Its been in their for like 4 months now i think, and their hasnt been a problem yet, and thats on these FREEZING nights weve been having not long ago. They survived nearly sub zero conditions (might of actually gotten below zero)

The PC Specs are a
2.4ghz Celeron D
256mb ram
Gigabyte M/B with onboard video
At the moment im using a crappy old soundblaster sound card, but ive decided not to go the m-audio card as I want external controls for volume etc so im going to buy an alpine processor unit in the near future and go digital optical out from the comp to the alpine unit.

The opus power supply is just a dc-dc converter with built in features, what im talking about is just software. Its pretty much just a bunch of registry hacks that does what I stated before. I posted a tut on it from a guru bout this stuff at caraudioaustralia.com go into the carputer section and have a look at my post, it explains EVERYTHING, if you need more help on it drop me a PM.

Tim the problem I have with the pods are, the only way you can stick them to the door is to take of the door trim, screw the pods to the door trim and them put the door trims back on. Theirs no actual way of securing the pods to the metal skin of the door which is what I want to do because the door trim just flexis of the skin like no tomorrow.
The pods are full fibreglass so their rock hard but. Just what their screwed into cannot be secured any more then what they already are unless i start putting screws through the side of my door trim into the skin, then ill have screw holes everywhere.

What im going to do is, make an mdf spacer that screws into the factory 6" hole in the skin, but this will be angled up of course. This way I will have splits screwed straight into the skin and with all the SD i will be putting in, hopefully the mid bass will be just how i like it... hard!

Frodoplayer (i think i said in my original post)
Anyways yeah its frodoplayer but with the brightlife 2 skin pack.

Ive tried all the other front ends over at mp3car.com and this one was perfect for me, and with the brightlife 2 skin pack i reckon its the best looking one aswell.

I think frodoplayer is based on media engine anyways.
