Hay all!
Im looking for a cold air induction (chrome pipe etc) does anyone know if KN, AEM, injen etc do a kit for the magnas/veradas. I know theres a kit for monteros which have the same engine (3.5L). At the moment i have used 2 VR commodore intake pipes with silicon adaptors (which works well) but i wanna change to a decent brand! anyine with experience help! but i reckon its a custom job
Verada!!KE cause the Magna just couldnt cut it!

or conversly you could buy some CAI pipe ($30) and some hose clamps, in total might set you back like $50.
a hell of a lot cheaper

Or you could have an exhaust shop make one for you out of stainless, or alloy. Then get it polish.

I agree, goto an exhaust shop, some mandrel bends from exhaust pipe, have a nice easy cai setup. Note for ease of serviceing, make the pipe in 2 pieces and have it slip into one another down where it runs in paralell with the radiator towards the lower bumper and bend it to sit behind the air duct where fog lights ussually sit. This way you can remove the top section for access to transmission oil filter.
When its all done, take the top half section to a chroming place for some bling in the engine bay.

yeah thats something im looking at now to ... getting my $50 cai converted into on peice or maybe 2 peices of stainless steel piping ...
any idea of cost ppl?

i paid around $100 for the whole lot, but thats mates rates.. mandrel bent pipe isnt that cheap, neither is having metal coated in chrome. Luckily it didn't take too long as it was on a hoist so we could fit everything easily top to bottom, instead of crawling around under the car.

my motto is, if your going to do something, do it right the first time. Plus it looked pretty horny as well when you lifted the bonnet up.

Here is the car when first added to fastmagna website.. (when it first started way back) you can see the setup there. I wil ltake better photos ad post them up and show how its 2 piece.
Also note that the filter is now oval instead of the round one. :D

A word of warning...
...a mate of mine does a lot of custom machining etc and made up a stainless CAI for a friend/ customers race car (yup a magna) and they found it just made a big stinkin heat sink!
Heated up the air and robbed power etc..
...they re-ducted it with plastic and sum heatshield and were much happier!
I reckon if it works on the track its the go for the street!

what about all the turbo's ... and their stainless piping fromt their front mounts would it have the same effect aswell of heating up if that were so?

It's true about stainless absorbing ambient heat from the engine bay, but I'm not convinced it is capable of 'heating up' the air thats passing thru it - if anything, the volume of cold air passing thru the pipes while the car is running would be sufficient to keep the piping cool to the touch. Once the cars stopped however is another story.
I've recently aquired a CAI kit using S.S piping and silicone bends (RPW) and I'm planning on heat shielding the length of SS pipe which runs down between the radiator and the gearbox. I won't be heat sheilding the lovely piece of SS pipe running horizontally across the top of the engine bay however - gotta have some bling effect!!.

im pretty sure if u get it chromed though it hold heat really well aswell

I just got a bunch of 100mm PVC, does anyone know if itll fit?
Seems everyone is using 80 or 90mm but I got the 100mm free with a few bends, I'll try out some things and keep you all posted.
Is there any advantage in having the pod further away from the TB or is it just a preference?
If you ran CAI piping thru to the box, wouldn't it have the same effect?

u could do that and get a get a better quality panel filter it should work aswell maybe better:D .... just wont have that induction noise if thats what u wanted

Heres a few pics of my CAI with a quick dodgy heatshield install as well. The intake pipe is 90mm pvc pipe colour coded to match the car. It gets a really nice induction noise when you gas it

yeah i used to have my pod in the engine bay, then i purchased rpw's silcone bend/steel cai kit, and the difference is quite noticable !
i think the kit is priced at under $300 , and you can assemble it yourself with minimal cutting/fuss.
but yeah, stonesour, on the side of your panel filter box it should say how much air it can flow, underneath it will say how much a pod filter can flow, it is much higher.
and with the actual air filter down below you are getting the best cai possible, its no maze for the cold air to navigate, just onto the filter, then through the piping to the engine.

I've heard this again and again, but 'induction noise' is not familliar to me... are you all just referring to a nicer note or whistling noise or what?
Please excuse my ignorance

i think the alloy pipe(not steel) would still work alot better than stainless steel piping
