View Full Version : Anyone ever pulled an engine and gearbox?

I dropped my KR into a certain Mitsubishi dealership... which will remain nameless... to get it evaluated and checked after a couple of problems. After 3 days of fruitless calls, I finally get some answers today, and the manager tells me that I need a replacement gearbox, and I asked for a price, and he says, get this "$7,300 should pretty much cover it"... I could buy 2 TRs for that much...

Anyway I've done some thinking, and my dad wants to pull the motor and gearbox, change the box and clean the engine up...

Has anyone ever attempted anything like this? I know it's going to be a long, painful process... Is there anything unusual I can expect?

Thanks guys...

This is an easy job, hour and a half to 2 hours. Take the motor out with the trans, make sure you do the rear main oil seal, the welsch plugs, re seal the sump etc.

You should be able to pick up a trans no problems change over reco for the 1200 mark, I believe lucas do them, KB got his Manual trans changed over through them I believe.

They must be quoting you on a brand new trans and including the car in it lol

Thanks Madmagna, I didn't actually think of doing any of that... I was pretty much just going to switch the trans

I would get your current one reconditioned, so you know its gonna last , around the same price... try R.P.M in melbourne. (if your in Vic)

I wouldnt bother with 2nd hand engine/trans unless theres at least a 3Year warranty.

I'd go Reco if you can. Not sure if AC Delco does the 6G72 remanufactured...that'd be the way to go if they do. They comply to the mitsu specs and stuff, they're inspected by the respective manufacturers etc, they're basically brand new. With a 3 year/60,000km warranty
