Hey guys

got a TF 3L with a Sports Auto.

when goin through the gears of the SA i find the delay between changes to be kinda slow. im just wondering if there is a way to reduce this delay and speed up changes between gears.

Whats avaliable that will do this? and what kinda costs are involved (if known).

Cheers guys,

Trent

maybe get the auto serviced,

There is a way to get the auto to shift harder but its costly and time consuming.

They increase the line pressure which in turn makes the auto shift higher and harder

To the best of my knowledge - this option does nothing to change the "shift points" (RPM at which gear changes are made) - this is all controlled by the transmission computer (which may or may not be intergrated into the central "ECU").

Increasing the line pressure, or installing a 'electronic shift kit' causes the duration of the shift to be much shorter. When a auto changes gears - it transitions between the 2 bands, effectively in 2 gears at once for a short period of time. When shifting manually via Tiptronic mode - this accounts for the 'lag' we witness.

I wouldn't recommend increasing the pressure of the transmission pump unless it's done by someone who knows what they are doing - even then there's no guarantee it won't shorten the life of the gearbox, and as far as I know - there are no commercially available 'electronic shift kits' available for these vehicles yet. Essentially and electronic shift kit has the same effect as increasing the line pressure, but does so by 'tricking' the transmission controller - somehow.

See www.shiftkits.com.au - but they have been 'developing' for Magna's for about 12 months now.

thanks for you help.

gonna look into the shift kit. for $70 starting point it sounds pretty good.. they recon it increases life of the gearbox by reducing clutch wear and reducing heat... its all good that it does that but what are the downsides??

the site says that they will be developing a magna one soon... but if they have been doing that for the last 12 months then who knows how long its gonna be..

might see if anyone else is doing them..

if there isnt any ill effects that it can have on the life on my gearbox then it'd be worth it.
