so i get a call this morning from my missis that the car wont start. Go over and find that nothing works, eaven though she had bee driving around in it all morning. Power windows, lights, nothing.

Tried to jump it, nothing, battery was shorting out, no idea. Put in a new Fully charged 650CCA battery, nothing same.

Called mitsubishi, got the car towed, they told me they put in a new battery and the car is fine.

I disagree, i think form my car experiance, as it has happend before in other cars, the starter motor selenoid got stuck and wouldn't disingage. They towed it and still did not start but once THEY put in a new battery, no problmes.

SO MY QUESTION IS, i think Mitsubishi here in Tas are trying to make me pay for something which died as a result of the car, but since it was fine after they got it to the shop, they do not want to clame it under waranty.

WHAT DOD I DO, it's $195 all up. Can't afford to pay it.

A stuck solenoid wont stop your car starting, it'll just trash the bearings in your starter motor if it actually starts and you'll hear a god awful screaming from it. Have you tried looking at the fuseable links which should be located somewhere near your battery in or on the fusebox, I've seen falcons pop these for hard to discern reasons and they stop the car dead, depending on which link blows. Like you said mitsu could be taking you for a ride, if it was a link then 10 bucks would probably fix it so why not stick $195 into the mix
If as you say you tried a second fully charged battery then you know thats not the problem, try questioning them to see if you can get any leverage, you never know.

SORRY i should have said i tried all the fuses and links, Mitsubishi said all they did was put in a new battery and no problems.

I cheaked everything as best i could and at the time nothing would work, not eaven the radio, imoboliser or doors.

If its a serious big short, its probably the starter solenoid "sticking on"
& shorting and it don't have to be running the starter motor too.

(nb: everything else on the car runs thru a fusable link)

Usually a jolt or just turning the engine over is usually enough to dislodge
the stuck solenoid, probably getting the car onto the truck did it.

We'd usually put the car in 5th gear and give it a little push.
Dunno what you'd do to an auto though.

Matthius Depends on where its stuck (open or closed position). My old TP and my KS had problems
where after a long drive, I can't start the car after stopping. The heat in the engine bay has
caused the solenoid to be stuck in the open position. Just had to whack it with a screw driver
while attempting to start it.

If the solenoid was stuck in the open position, then you wouldnt have any electrical problems all of your dash would work, you just wouldn't engage the starter motor as there would be no current flow, like you said your car just wouldn't start. If it was stuck in the closed position then the starter pinion would be in mesh with the flywheel and the brushes in the solenoid would be triggering main starter power and your starter would be off and running, then when your car starts and the solenoid is still stuck closed(closed circuit) the flywheel then drives the starter motor via the pinion and wrecks it due to overevving - seeing as the magna usually jumps to around 2k on startup this would destroy a starter motor quickly.

I don't think this is the problem in this case tho.
