I am kind of curious here, how many here have this problem where the water reservoir for our windshilds crack? This is because EVERY seller I met before buying my Magna had theirs cracked, and it seems to be a very common problem.
Can anything be done to prevent this cracking?

Ummn, ive never seen one cracked? Do you mean to the point of leaking water? If so, just go to a wreckers, spend 15 bucks and buy a new one.

Yep out of 4 3rd gen Magnas we have had through our familly 2 of them have had the top of the washer resevoirs crack (or rather gone britle).
I started armoralling my resevoir in the hope of stopping this problem. My theory is the heat in the engine bay cooks the plastic untill one day it becomes brittle, this I have noticed only happens on the top where there is never any water.

Same with my KS Verada. I think its due to the heat in the engine bay. MMAL are not using
proper plastics for the job.

Yeah I thought so too, I was surprise to see them all cracked from nearly every single seller I met. Was thinking if any precaution or alteration that would help prevent it from cracking would be neat. $55.00 for a new reservoir everytime is not a solution. lol
cheers!

mines fructis, only on the side opposite engine side though. I assumed there was something that hit it when the bonnet closed...
if its heat that's getting to it, I'm sure a layer of silver gaffa tape would reflect some heat and help insulate a bit...
Yeh, my one on top was cracked. On the top-left side.
Went to the wreckers, bought a rather new looking reservoir for $30

can
t be f***ed getting a whole new bottle, even though if i come to a violent stop - (not that that happens often ) :D - water leaks out, and looks like my car's bleeding.

Heat shield time. Adds some shiny to the engine bay too! Run a cai past the reservour. Or just cover the whole top section with silastic etc.

not that it has happened to me in two 3rd gens, but it is common across many vehicles. i sell them every day for camrys across all models....its just heat.

Mines cracked too, left side on top. Duct tape seems to work ok.

They would be outsourcing items like this through a parts supplier. Not much is built at the factory aside from things like bodies and and untill recenttly engines.

It would be better if something is being done properly but my guess is not. and I dunno for guys who have the 380 whether this problem would occur.

Mine has a hole on top where is all goes brittle, so i just put some duct tape over the top of the hole so no sh¡t gets in there. lol
the thing holds about 5l so there is no point buying a new one for a small hole in the top, it still holds a sh¡t load of water

if you actually notice ... the sun shines through the side of the bonnet and thats what makes it crack.... they all crack in exactly the same spot.... non UV staibilised plastic .... but i will commend them on having the largest windshield washer bottle in the southern hemisphere!!!

Haha! Not quite, i can only just get 5l into the magna bottle, but my work car (camry 4cyl wagon) holds almost 7l!!!!!
However, my auntie has a magna, and she tells me that she only gets her car serviced when the washer bottle runs out. so maybe its good they dont make them any bigger! lol
