Hey guys,

I know a few magna's do this but i just want to know what the hell it is, whenever i push my car car from about 3000 it starts to make a really odd high picthed wwwiiissshhhh noise all the way to the read line. It almost sounds like a turbo spooling up...

A few places have told me its the EFI... not 100% sure on that one.

Any idea's?

i have that sorta sound in mine when i change gears - kinda lika BOV - but i know it's not.

the EFI shouldnt do that though??

It isnt induction noise is it?? through the pod??

The pod on my last car used to make that sort of hissing noise, and when you turned the engine off it would make a blow off style noise when it pushed all of the air back out of the pod (at least that's what I think it was)

No its not the pod or anything to do with induction im pretty sure as its allways been there since i bought the car. Its very odd...

when u change gears n the noise is their d u have the AC on?
If i turn my A/C bout 3, floor it, let off just b4 it changes gear it gives the BOV noise...freaks people out 'a ***in TURBO MAGNA' goes well with my plates! D SLO 3L :)

AM: mine dus the same noise cant really hear it until in inclosed area (tunnels etc)...sounds mad as! i like it!

Do u have the A/C on? if so its the A/C belts
when u floor it they stop to give out more power...when u let off they start up again which is the BOV noise...iv only ever known of magnas to do it! [/quote:3055ffd1c5]

all magnas make a turbo spool sound probably due to either the gearbox or the general setup of how they have the fans etc setup (sounds really cool)

the blow off sound noise? never heard that b4 on a magna....but to my belief it is most likely the induction/ taking a nice breath of air (do all u guys run pod filters?

I know the noise you r talking about nd Know what it is if u have an after market exhaust

I had some F***ING idiot complain about my TE (to loud) to the RTA.
To reduse the noise level i had 3 resonators put in but that still wasn't enough so i had 4 flanges put in nd there was that whisteling noise (the flanges). When i took them out the noise was gone again, gee i love having an exhaust that sets off car alarms 127.5 Db :D

WTF!!!

Insanely loud man!!! What sorta exhaust did u have - dual cannon mufflers or something?? and is the 127.5 at 3000 RPM or peaking at 6??

I have a similar noise when I give the throttle a quick on off. I can pick the noise up with a stethoscope. Louder on the back bank then the front bank of my extractors. I have traced it back to just before the cat. I tend to believe it might be the o2 sensor. With the aftermarket setup, the sensor is 90 degrees to the pipe where as the OEM setup is about 40 degrees? to the pipe. I have as yet not made any changes to see if this would fix it but the sound is the loudest in that area.

The loudest is when i take it up to 4000 then lift off. thats when the crackeling starts

The exhaust is a 2 1/2" single hi flow cat back with cannon 3" tip (i think) but with no resonators

AussieMagna

That would be dam loud.

Hehe, I saw a car with a semi-loud exhaust set off someone's car alarm the other day in Parra... Funny...

Anyway, nope... never heard of the whistling... sounds funky though...

...

edit: quoted the wrong thing..

2 year old post,

but i've started to notice this wierd ass noise... a REALLY hi pitched, quick WWIISSSHH noise, between gear changes (even when i leave it in drive - but only when i'm flooring it  (at about 4-5000 revs)) some of my friends said they've heard it since i got the car... but i've only ever started hearing it now..

anyone figure out what it is yet? the car's pretty stock mechanically

Your exhaust system could have sprung a leak near the header end. Air is leaking INTO the pipe.

Exhaust is one long pipe, gas is flowing thru it under normal operation - at pretty high velocity when your engine is revving high. But when you lift off... engine revs fall and the headers stop pumping out the high amt of gas... but there's still gas moving fast at the tail end of the pipe ==> you get vacuum (low pressure) at the header end, this sucks air in.

(Got a weekend toy that started making authentic BOV sounds & took me ages to work it all out. Was checking the entire exhaust system for leaks & signs of leaking gases... but as it sucks air IN, there's no sign of hot gas leaking OUT.)

Could be as simple as a loosened flange off the header.

Modern cars with Cats could also have an air feed to the cat. Not sure what kind of funny sound that can create.

I have that too, but only when i floor it and then back off with the accelerator. I think its the aircon compressor clutch....
