View Full Version : Major service??
So I was wondering, when you take your car in for a major service
(90,000Km service) is the replacement of the timing-belt
included in this service as well?
Yes or no?

i reacon u'd be lookin at around $500 for the timing belt... so ive been told..
so apart from that anything else that needs to be done on top of that.
i was lucky i bought mine with 112000 on the clock and they hadnt had the 100,000km service (where they replace the timing belt... ) i managed to con them into doing it for no extra cost..
you'd be up for a bit anyways
Yeh, I found out on this board that a timing-belt change would cost around $400ish .........Ouch*

Its mainly because they need to take off 1/3 of the engine to replace the timing belt. Ive seen it done before and it isnt pretty to take everything off, but putting it back on is a breeze.

1/3rd of the engine out, man you seriously need a new mechanic.
The job can easilly be done in an 2 to 2.5 hours, the RH engine mount needs to come off, the power steering idler pulley, both fan belts, timing belt covers. Remove tensioner and reset, replace cam and crank oil seal and re assemble.
Mitsubishi like to make you think that this takes ages so they can charge you. My average time for the belt on it's own is 2 - 2.5 hours mainly as I have to use jacks etc as I do not have a hoist. Add half hour for seals if beng done.

I missed my 90k service (And the car's now 5 yrs old, so keep that in mind). I've decided to get the timing belt replaced. I've been quoted just under $900 for a 100k service with a timing belt change and 6 new sparkplugs. This was from a local midas, mitsu wanted to charge me over $1300 for the job
Fair price?
Hey sports, where did you go to get your timing belt changed?
$310 seems pretty cheap too me, compared with the other numbers...
Oh yeh thanks for all the help peeps!
Much appreciated.
