Any of you guys have engraved perspex installed in your car?

Any idea on the costs?

Has anyone seen perspex windows with two colours displayed at the same time?

Maybe some pics of my current project will spark some interest and give you guys an idea what I'm on about....

Yep has been done before, doesnt cost that much. Go to a proper laser engraver. My mate had it done in his car, I'll find out the price next time i see him.

But if you have already done this, why don't you tell us about the cost?

Cause I am getting a fair bit of biz doing perspex installs at the moment... I'm thinking it may be a good investment if I upgraded my engraving software to cope with more complicated stuff (for something different) but I'm looking for ideas...

I have another project in mind with the soundstream spider, which would have the legs twitch with the beat of the music. Ya reckon that would be too ricey?...

Have you got any pics of the installs with more than one colour at the same time? I can't seem to find much on the net....

It'd be too ricey for my liking, but there would be plenty of people who'd be interested in something like that.

mmm, how would u get them to twitch? make two seperate layers of perspex with different engravings on it?

yeh, pity everything sticks to perspex, and stratches badly even when u look at it the wrong way

More pics...
I stole the fish light to see how it would look....

Yeah... I'm thinking it's gonna be a bit over the top... But for a laugh!!!!

About the scratches... Therin lies the dilema. I've got bulletproof 12.5" polybi-carb sheets that I plan to use for the final version.... Won't scratch at all, but they cost a fair bit so I'm thinking that it will be a one of a kind. Glass sheets just don't look the same as this with regards to the lighting effects, plus I've been looking for a way of using this extra sheet of polycarb for a while just purely for the sheer rigidity it has.

YEAH.... O.K.... I'm doin it for the freekin guido factor too.. :dancin:

yeah, id say thats the only drawback about glass...u can't cut trippy patterns in it.

soo...could u make me something trippy looking like that too? perhaps something small u can put onto custom fibreglass doorpods with LEDs inside.

Sure, I can make something up for ya... I have got some logos already stored,
http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/BEN/logos.jpg
or you can give me a .jpg file. I scan the .jpg in and clean it up a bit to save in an analogue format. Just give me the measurements to work with and I can cut it exactly to match. Last door pods I did were with the (old) pioneer logo and the background gold with the blue pioneer font in front in 150mm*250mm four sheets of 3mm perspex (2 layers per side) lit with leds.

Just pm me for price details...

:bowrofl: Just let me know....

HEY!!! I'm talking about the install....

I can either do the complete perspex effects pack or... when it's real dark on a Saturday night, I can sneak in and just do the perpex sheets (without the lights and surrounds) which is waaaay cheaper.

where you located dude? im very interested in some of them pioneer designs you have pictured, how much would you charge for 2 of em? oh and how big are they?

Benjames

I'm in Toowoomba, which is west of Brisbane.

The logos which were pictured earlier are only 70mm by 40mm big, and they are used to make sure the light refracts properly for the depth in cut that we use...

This setup is gonna get expensive by the time the final version is finished with the 12.5mm polycarb (3mm perspex, 2 layer 600mm by 500mm pictured) so I have to get it right the first time round. I won't be needing this panel after I'm finished but I'm reluctant to sell it as it was made from scraps and is full of scalpel scratches.

After all that stuffing around with dual panels I think I like the single red layer the most

Ummm... that picture looks blurred cause of all da fully sick bass :doubt: Yeah, O.K. I'm full of crap... :P

Sorry for asking a silly question, but how do you get the words to light up only ? do you put small lef's on the side of the panel and it just works out ?

Looks like a cool thing to try out :)

You mount the Neon Tube Against the hidden part of the Perspex/Glass and cover the naked Exposed part then the light has no choice but to go through the Glass an illuminate the etching... It is Very Trick..

like this.... This prototype panel has some aftermarket multicolour L.E.Ds "softmounted"(can be removed without damage) with aluminium tape surround to help refract the light within the panels, and to stop the colours bleeding into each other.

http://www.lavendergreenooaks.com/BEN/focal91.jpg

You can use a cheaper black duct tape (100 mile n hr tape) to get a similar effect, as seen in an earlier post.

I've decided that the final version shall be single panel (due to the cost of 12.5mm polycarb being over $1200 per sheet  ) with a multicolour "hard mounted" L.E.D. setup from above.

Thats awsome.

I might try it out with some perspex and an engraver.
