Hi All, the pipe flange/end of the pipe on what seems to be the main coolant pipe on the top of my radiator has broken away  (whilst driving I may add). The rest of the radiator seems fine and I was able to keep on driving just by tightening up coolant pipings to the rest of the pipe. My question is this can I just get a new top for my radiator ? the car is drivable but its not much fun driving with the knowledge the coolant piping could break off at any time . I haven't been able to source any replacement radiators as yet (since its the weekend) but I have found this on ebay for <=$200

What sort of price do you think I would be looking at for a repair vs. the cost of getting a new one?? I was thinking of putting it in myself as there are only seems to be about 3-4 coolant pipes going into the thing plus some pipes coming from the auto gearbox. My only other question is do I have to get a radiator that is suitable for a magna or can I simply get something that is of the same size/shape generally and has a an oil cooler in the bottom. The other thing is I would like is a radiator with a proper metal top rather than the shoddy plastic that is the root of my current problems  hehe.

Are there any unforseen problems with changing a radiator? and is it reasonably simple to clamp the oil cooler lines and to swap them over to the new radiator? I guess I would need to top the gear box up with a bit of transmission fluid after that.

This is a common problem at this age

The guy selling these new ones was selling them for only $175 a few weeks ago.

The best is go new as the plastic goes brittle and your next one will be the lower pipe to break and then you have no warning as all the coolant drops, no coolant in the motor can mean no temp guage and no over heat reading.......... engine rare, medium or well done
