hey guys,

i've got a Manual TE V6 with 150,000kms and i'm getting problems shifting gears. Sometimes it does not want to go in 2nd or 3rd. How would i know if my gearbox needs replacing. My clutch is fine i had it changed 3 months ago.

Also for those who have manual cars, when do find it better to shift gears in terms of performance and fuel economy (3000-4000rpm?).

What about changing gears at 6000-7000rpm  ? Does that affect you gearbox?

Isnt that a bit too high to change gears? As most cars change even before it hits 3000 or at 3500. Just asking.

When was the last time you changed your gearbox oil? ...or maybe your syncros are dead.

My Ralliart is in getting the clutch done at the moment and i'm having the oil replaced with some redline shockproof at the same time.

Best avoid crossing that 6200 rppm redline too often, they put it there for a purpose. But it shouldn't do much damage as there's a rev limiter installed. Definitely try changing the oil first. Otherwise have someone check the linkages? I don't know too much about these boxes, but I know that I was racing a Nissan work van one day and I snapped the linkage clips and I had no 1st, 3rd or 5th gears. The gear lever moved freely from 1st to 5th without going via neutral! :  doesnt sound like this is the case for you I dont think. But Hopefully it's not your syncros. Might need a recondition in that case

Got the Ralliart back this arvo from having the new custom clutch installed, huge improvement in shiftability and no more clutch slippage - Touch wood.

The new clutch is taking a little getting used to but is not much heavier under foot than standard which is good.

Decided against the Redline shockproof gear oil though for fear it would make the LSD too noisey, but did use Redline 75W90 oil.

I always shift below 3000rpm on normal driving, when dragging I shift around 6100rpm seems a good place to shift gears.
