Hey guys. Well a couple of months ago I had new shocks put in as the old ones were dead. Well over the weekend, it was making clunks and bumps (similar to the sounds of it bottoming out) on the slights bumps in the road. Just wondering if this is normal in anyone else's car or whether I should get it looked at...

I've just recently bought a TS and it does a similar thing. I was presuming that I needed to replace front strut inserts and re-do some of the rubber bushes at the front to fix it. The rubber bushes are supposed to give a bit of absorbancy to the whole set up. If the bushes are gone, then sometimes the suspension can sound like it's banging and crashing along as there can be metal to metal contact in the joints where the bush would normally sit.

I'd be very keen to know what you end up finding out.

Cheers,

Pete

Ok, first things first.

Did your mechanic use urathayne bushes, if so there is your first place to start

There are a few other areas, the ball joint on the sway bar link from the lower control arm to the sway bar.

The lower control arm ball joints are another place as well as the strut tops, they have bearings in them.

Here is a few starters anyway, could also be the steering rack also, get the others checked first though

mate do u have anything in ur boot?

i experienced the same problem when i had my new shocks and springs put in ... scared the sh!t out of me ... but i then realised i had my old stock CD player in the boot and it was jumping around like mad coz the rear shocks/springs are now so much stiffer!

anyway just thought i would pt this out to u first

Its a wagon, and the only thing in the back is the sub box, but its held down with a lock strap. Its definately coming from the front.

this might sound stupid but tyre pressure could maybe be contributing to this? might not be the actual reason but too high tyre pressure wouldnt be helping the situation any

i have a similar knock coming from the LHF of my magna and like you i replaced the struts a few months ago, i have jacked the front of my car up and shook the wheel, I traced the knock to the steering rack, feeling through the boot i think it's either a worn inner rod end (replaceable) or a worn rack and housing (which means i need a complete new rack)
