I have a TR 2.6 Auto which I just replaced the engine with a fully reco engine 13 000 klms ago, it has 3 year 100 000klm warranty.

... however I replaced the gearbox last year because it was sticking in gears and making a really sickening griding noise, also replaced ecu, alternator and cv's.

Now the car only has 2 operational gears 2nd and 3rd. Ist gear doesnt exist and 4th will not engage because I have to turn O/D off otherwise the car wont change gears at all, also the CV's are totalled, making clicking noises when turning etc.

The question is, I should be buying a KE Verada from a friends dad in the next week or 2, should I offload this car to him to trade in when he gets his new car, or should I keep the old TR also? I cannot afford much for mechanical repairs if I do keep it, and I only really have a need for one car. Also, since the car is not mechanically 100% what should I offer for him to trade in my car? for example should he take my TR and give me $1000 off the price of the Verada?? I kinda want to get rid of it before it costs me more cash, but I thought Id ask the experts first :)

Any ideas???

Sounds like that needs a gearbox recond/rebuild, will cost $800-1500.

Not sure if the market will pay $1k for a Magna with a busted auto gearbox,
maybe if there's a full year's rego attached. Otherwise $500 might be "it".

Ummm what do you do to it if you replaced the cv's and trans a year ago and it is stuffed already.

either that or your parts supplier should have these parts stuffed into a place that he will find them hard to find again.
