After the 'which slpits' thread I thought I'd post to let everyone know what I got...
After a bit of fluffing around, I found these focal k2 power splits on ebay and decided to make my first ebay purchase. The 165 KP 2 way set cost me $344 delivered through online_depot; an ebay store.
Considering they retail for $530 on the FHRX site and $730 at westside car audio, I think I did pretty well. The only gripe I have is that they sent me a 165v2 genuine product card... how dodgy!
Well I'm going to get them in asap so I'll let you all know how they sound. As soon as I get a hold of S_tim_ulate's JVC kdsx905, I should have a nice sounding little system...
I do need to get 6x9's to fit in the tailgate of the wagon tho, so anyone with reccomendations, pls get them in.
I'm looking at eclipse and MB quart (discus and reference) series atm but I'm open to any sugestions.
Cheers!

Wagons are so much harder in my opinion to get a good sound; however, for the 6x9s I've seen a lot of people put them on the parcel shelf (im not sure if it's called a parcel shelf in wagons, but whatever), or you can also put them in side panels that are located in the boot space. Personally, I'd forget 6x9s and just put another set of splits in the rear doors or something.
umm...custom made fibreglass boxes for 8" subs in the back, on the side somewhere? :D

I'm intending to have the 6x9's in the boot (in the tailgate facing the front) and eventually 6" midbass only in the rear doors. Don't really want a sub because I need the space, want the security of having a stock looking car and I don't want that kind of sound...
Personal preference really, this way all the speakers will be in stock compartments except for the midbass in the rear doors and they should be nicely hidden. I'll try and get stock trims for rear doors that house speakers.
Any idea on what models have rear door factory speakers?

Just get your windows tinted at like 10% and no one will even see it.

I need room to sleep, put tools, surfboards, fishing gear..........
No subs! And I'm not cutting the rear quarter inner panels just to put 8" in... not yet anyway.

If you're after recommendations on sound qual for 6x9's i'd recommend a pair of JBL or Eclipse.

Yea I've heard the eclipse 2 way and can get them for a very reasonable price. They sound good, better in my opinion than the MB quart... but I haven't heard any JBL's yet.

Pioneers go very well for the price... But is a different story with an enclosure that small compared to the entire boot in a sedan.

I used to use this, you will get a lot more power handling as the smaller box provides more dampening for the cone, but you will get reduced output in the lower midbass region.
Still a good option (and an awesome idea if you ever want to pump ur tunes outside ur car on camping trips. Just run the wire and throw the boxes wherever.)

what if I just sound deaden the boot?
I would be a lot happier if I could just have them hidden... and not sliding about the boot

Aren't a good set of 6" splits a better option than 6x9s anyway?

Have you ever seen a 98 TF wagon with stock 6" speakers in the tail gate?
No! Thats because they make the cars with 6x9's back there.
I want the car's audio to look stock and I don't want to cut anything... I need 6x9's!
I started this thread to get more info on what brand/model of 6x9 work...
Not to ask whether 6" splits are better than 6x9's...
because I don't care which is better...
because I'm getting 6x9's.
If you want the answer to your question, post somewhere else...
If you have a recomendation for a certain make/model of 6x9 speaker, please let me know as I'm interested in any feedback you might have on them.

I bought a pair of those 6x9's a while back for my old TR and **** me they are a good pair of speakers. I used to run them off an old Sony CD-Player 45x4 HU. They're now going into my missus's Lancer and will do the job quite nicely.

I'm just after a full sound throughout the car without using a sub. I know the 6x9's won't do the same job, but I've been satisfied with them before, as they do put out fairly good bass. I'm after a 6 speaker set up comprising of the focals in the front, 6x9's in the tailgate (so far in the factory possies) and 6's in the rear doors. This should provide a nice little stage and plenty of bass/midbass for my liking.
I just tried to install the splits but ran out of light and inspiration so I'm going to go and get them pro installed tomorrow, with dynamat and MDF.
The reference series MB quart 6x9's are actually splits, which is kind of cool, but I was very impressed by the eclipse splits (2 way) and for $299, they're leading the way...
Not many use eclipse hey, why is that?

OK, I installed a Set of 6x9's down the back of A TE Magna Wagon..
Unless you are prepared to listen to the tail gate Rattle like a Plastic Bag in a Gale force wind you are going to need a ton of sound deadoning..
OK
For the Rear of your Magna Wagon, JBL, Alpine,Eclipse, Cadence and Boston all make 6x9;s that will be suitable for your Application..
Since you are not getting a sub I would Highly advise Spending a bit of money on your 6x9's then buying anything from Pioneer,Clarion or JVC...
At all costs avoid Kenwood, Sony, Boss and Avalanche as these brands will only lead to wasted money and dissapointment...
As S_tim_ulate has already stated, Boxing 6x9's reduces their Bass Output.. 6x9's need a large air Cavity to work effectively, the Tailgate is sufficient enough to generate some low end but as the Cavity behind the speaker is not as large as what is offered in a Sedan boot, they may not appear to work as effectively but since it isn in a Wagon where the speaker fires directly into the cabin with no refflections the results can be suprising..
2ndly, No, in this instance a 6 inch round speaker will not produce the same kind of results as the 6x9 will, the 6x9 has more Cone area therefore being able to move more air hence being able to reproduce more Bass ( If a Sub was going to be used down the track, I would still use the 6x9's, I like my Mid Bass to be well pronounced)
