Hey guys, I'm just wondering does anyone know if 2nd and 3rd gens wheel studs are exactly the same setup on these models, so when I sell my mags I can possibly sell to TR/TS or any 3rd gens? I've also been told we have the same stud pattern/size etc as most Falcons..

to the first question, yes whatever fits on 3rd gen fits a second gen (AWD's may be an exception though)

to the second question yes rims of falcon "can" fit magnas. I use "can" because the stud pattern and pcd do match. BUT magna hubs are a fair bit smaller hence rims designed for falcons do not fit tightly on magna hubs. You have to make sure you center the wheel properly on the hub as you putting it on or you will get bad vibrations. This also means you can only put rims made for a falcon onto a magna but you can't do the opposite (won't fit on the falcon hub)

Secondly the thread on magna studs is different from that on falcon studs. So if you buy rims that come with nuts to suit falcon to put on ur magna throw them away coz they won't tighten properly, you need to buy new ones.

The offset of falcon mags are soooo different to magna ones it's not funny. I wouldnt even bother

Cool thanks guys, thats great to know. I didnt wanna sell them til I was sure it would fit the next car! I'll sell to 2nd or 3rd gen Magnas then.

*Edit: I think the tyre fitter I bought them off told me they go straight onto an AU falcon.. but whether he's right or not is another thing. LOL

make sure you check the rolling diameter too, I got a set of 16's off jake (and they look sweet) but the rolling diameter is slightly larger.

I put Speedy Longchamps on my magna recently that came straight of an XR6 ute. No problems with offset, just the problems with hub size and stud thread that i meantioned earlier.

I I R C The AU falcon up till the current model run the same stud pattern(pcd) and offset as the magna and yes you can interchange them if the wheels are aftermarket ones. The rolling diameter should be the same unless the tyres were wrong falcon come with 205/65/15 standard same as a magna even the new models still run the same size tyres as each other

the 16" rim on a falcon is 205/60/16 and they use 235/45/17 and 235/40/18 as do the magnas

AU and newer Falcons came with 16" steel wheels as standard not 15"
EF and EL Fords have 15 inch rims as standard but have a different PCD to AU and Magna.
some Toyota and Nissan rims are also the same PCD, I used to have a set of 16" skyline/silvia rims on a 2nd gen.

I beg to differ au 1 and 2 had 15 inch steel wheels it wasnt until the au3 that they had 16 inch wheels standard across the range. And the ef el had the same pcd(stud pattern) as the rest its there offset thats different.
Check any wheels fitment guide it will verify this.
Oh yeah i worked for ford for a while when the ef el and au's came out so i kinda know what im on about

I beg to differ slightly. It was the AU2's when 16" wheels became standard on the Forte's (Which means the rest of the line must have had 16" or bigger)

I put KE EI rims on my old KS Touring wagon and they fitted fine so i'm guessing it will work the other way. But as someone else said, the rolling diameters are different so i had to get rid of the 215 60 16's off the KE and get a lower profile tyre tokeep speedo the same.

In fact, even changing the stock 15" wheels (205/65) on a 3rd gen to say... the 16's (215/60) from the 3rd gen Verada will cause 2.6% difference in the rolling diameter.

Yeah interesting.. I wonder what difference would be when ya go from 205/65/15 to 235/45/17? I honestly couldn't pick the difference but it would be interesting to hear if anyone has done a speedo test on these different sizes? I have done that 5km speedo check, and both times, at the end of 5km it shows I have done 5.1km. So technically, every 51000km according to the odometer the car has actually only done 50000. Not a big difference I suppose. My parents 2001 Pajero has bigger tyres than factory and every 5km they test the trip says 4.7km, so the speedo must be a couple of km/h under what they're actually doing. But I have also read that Magna speedo's are set at factory to read about 102-104km/h when ya really doing 100km/h.. can anyone confirm?

Well its actually a better choice, going by the Miata Tyre Size Calculator (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html) it says you will only be out -0.6%.

I'm not at all suprised if that is the case. Ever since I bought the 3rd gen, I find people are always up my arse, and constantly being overtaken. Maybe that's why the general public calls us Magna drivers grandpa's ???

Yeah, I know for a fact that the magna speedo's are a few km/h ahead in comparison to vt commodores, my mate had one and we tested it numerous times at different speeds, driving side by side with UHF's.. at 60km/h on his speedo, I was doing 64, at 80km/h on his I was doing 83, and at 107km/h on his I was doing 111.. quite a difference I reckon. It's strange tho cos at around 140 we're both pretty close. And its not only his commodore I've compared against, I quite often have a squiz at other speedo's if I can, usually at night is easier to see others but its harder to judge from angle etc.

Also I've sat on a cruising speed of 109km/h between toowoomba and brissy, and going down a hill the car got to around 111 maybe 112 and I passed a speed camera.. no flash.. :S Thank god!

Might start a new thread on this
