Hey Guys,

my gfs old crap box has been hanging on for dear life for years now hehe but its starting to cave in bit by bit.

it smokes like anything and burns oil like no tomorrow... thermostats gone... water pump went... but its a decent little ****ter for getting around in so im gonna keep it.

She broke down this morning on the way to work and RACV came out... the guy temporarily fixed the thermostat and she asked him about all the smoke... he said he used to have one and that everyone always told him it was the engine and it needed to be replaced. He said its all BS and that all he did to improve it was change the Valve Guide Seals which costs about 150.

So... has anyone done this before?? Im gonna give it a go on the weekend... just need to locate one of those car manuals and he parts.

EDIT:: can someone delete this post?? found some info in the tech section which i didnt see before lol

you can do it 2 ways take head off or use compressed air to keep valves from falling in and landing on piston if that happens you will have to pull head off

Or use nylon rope to hold the valves up.

My grandfather (who used to be a mechanic) told me that trick, Just feed some nylon rope into the cylinder then wind the engine over by hand until it is tight. That holds the valve up and doesnt hurt anything either (and is cheap :))
