hi all,
as it seems i've also fallen victim to the clear coat being stuffed on my alloys, consequently making the overall car look like crap...
so what is the best way to get them back to looking like they were originally?
i'm thinking along the lines of stripping with paint stripper, polishing with metal polish or similar, and reapplying the clear coat
what would you guys recommend as a clear coat for them, or would / have you done anything different
i've attached a pic of what one of them looks like, it's hard to see but it's worn in patches on the metal part

could always go a different approach and powder coat them.

I cleaned my Elante's ones with gasket stripper, nice and gentle but gets the clear coat off. I havent bothered to recoat them as they look better like that.

yer dont bother reclearcoating them again just remove the current coat and polish whats underneath looks better

Thats what I did, just removed the clear and polished with metal polish :)
Gasket stripper works really well, leave it a bit, wait for the clear to bubble then scrape it off, couldnt be easier. If it doesnt all come off repeat.

now thats an idea alot better and quicker then sanding, mind you still probally best to give a slight w/d sand after just to smooth off so it makes it easyer to polish!

so gasket stripper or something similar by the sounds of it
there isn't any chance of rust on these is there? (yes i konw they're alloy and not steel, but i dont want em rusting up on me)
will acquire some stripper and have a go at the spare this week if i have time
No. They're alloy, they won't rust.

had a go at one of em today, stripped the clear coat (there was hardly any left on the spare anyway) off
dried it off and sanded lightly with 1500 grit to get some of the marks off the alloy, and polished, turned out *really* nice compared to what they were like, i'll get a pic when i've finished this one completely to compare

might be a week or 2 before i get pics, as i'm stripping off the black painted insert bits, ot to decide if i want to repaint those now
decided against redoing the black bits, as it looks better all metal i think, heres one thats finished (took me a day too)
