Not sure if it's a leaking injector? It's not un-common to have a fuel smell when cruising, I'm yet to find out myself what causes it. But as for fuel usage try a fuel injection service and de-carbon service, mitsubishi does this for $100 or there abouts and it should produce results. Otherwise go through a couple of tankfulls of 98 ron unleaded and add some injector cleaner into the tank as well. 15l/100km is not overly bad, depending how you'r driving it, if you have a heavy foot or not. They drink hard if driven hard

My mums car is sitting on 15.3L/100km

2003 TJ 3.5L Auto

My mum doesnt hammer it at all, but alot of starting and stopping and short trips.\

Also my brothers Manual Ralliart is sitting on 15.3L/100km aswell and he gives it alot more than my mum.

what sort of driving are you doing? if its alot of inner city or driving in traffic then those fuel consumption figures arent un-usual.. its called owning a V6 :doubt:

that response was probably for leon, but yeh my mum does alot of inner city driving. dont think its unusual but wat i do find unusual is that other people on this forum claiming they get 11 or 12L/100km with abit of thrashing everynow and then in the city, just cant see that happening.

My mums car got down to 12.6L/100km once when we took it away, was highway but still abit of slowing down and accelerating.

nope im not hammering anywhere lol im not aloud to drive my parents cars anymore, so its all my mum driving and im telling u she doesnt hammer it.

when i use to drive it though, i would drive so slow and not accelerate fast at all and it still didnt get any better.

Yup thats true, as said before the V6 engine is strong but when you are in the city is just using more fuel than the country side. Unless you are manual, you would save much more than an auto anytime.

I have a Manual 6g72 and mine around the City is Chugging down the fuel at a rapid Rate...
I have no Idea why and I am changing no later then 3500Rpm most of the time I change at around 3000rpm????

Ur....just to let u know my Auto changes below 2000 where possible, except for 3rd of 4th gear which is slightly above 2500-3000 mark. Again if you are going up hill, yeah you have the advantage of going to 3500 and change as you need the power. I go up hill slower as I dont push the engine that hard.

An update on my tank is still more than half a little and has reached 300kms. Normally it drops fast after the half tank.

I advise you, on the straight road to change at lower rpm like 1800-2500 Might help you to save more fuel. In other words if you guys want economy then please dont speed lol. Seen cars that push off once the lights turns green, what ever for when you are not racing or rushing? Also there is something mentioned in the manual for auto owners is that you can straight drive your car without warming up as it will do it automatically get proper and I mean good Engine oil so that it gets it going quick and fast. Semi Syn oils like Castrol Magnetic and Helix plus are the acceptable ones recommended. Fully Syn are even better but do choose the right grade and make sure the brand manufacturer advises it to be suitable for the car. Note: Only Mobil 1 SuperSyn is recommended from their websites. Shell did not state that fully syn is compatible with 97TE Magna but when asked, they recommended that it was safe to use Helix Ultra their top grade Syn Engine oil.

Everything plays a part with your fuel economy. Remove any unecessary things in your boot or in your car. Weight is your enermy. For those who uses wings, spoiler, I cant recommend anything as it is not easy to look cool and safe fuel at the same time. Sure there be some here who will claim that they do pretty ok with all their body kit on. But as far as the normal driving is concern, if you can loose the weight, do it but not your spare tyre lol.

I believe your Manual will beat mine flat despite the V6 issue over 4 Cylinder.
ONE BIG THING that Magna owners should know is that the fuel economy speeds of the car is between 60-75kmh going faster at short distances will not give good economy and vice versa. And if it was manual I will step on the clutch going down hills. For auto you just let it row. of course be on the brakes also.

You be surprised! But it can be true. I have seen some amps that look like a stone tablet! Whether they are that heavy? I dunno but yes this is a weight contributing factor, don't think that it is not. When you remove a lot of junk from your car, you realised how much unnecessary weight you have been carrying around.

Anyways my Auto changes below 2000 where possible. and goes 2500-2800 when I do push it a little when I really want to gain some speed. anything above is definately racing speeds for me.

wow I get 450 Km from about 55L of fuel (usually what I put in)

one of the sensors went in my skyine I got 33km to 1/4 tank fcuk loads of black fuel smoke (the tank is 62 L BTW)

check all the sensors (water temp, AFM evc ect) for corrosion in the terminals
