Do the Magnas have a Rev limiter at all? I believe it does, everytime I hit 6k in first the power seems to just completely die. Or maybe its just me. I know I shouldnt really be pushing it beyond 6k anyway.

Thats because peak power is around 5000rpm (mine is 5300rpm). But loosing power like you are saying is not the rev limiter kicking in.

yeah they do i remember my cousin constantly bouncing his car TH of the rev limiter when it was for sale. Just rev your car all the way to you fell a jek kinda like down changing at high rpm.
Not recommended if you want to maintain a healthy engine.

2.4litre 4cylinder rev limter cuts in at 6200rpm, ya know when ya hit it, its a bit rough, ya cant really go past it, and the v6's rev limiter is at 6700. Not sure about the new 3rd gens and ralliart etc,but these are definite in the TE-TF maybe TH models.

woah dude... that's some high revs right there.. i'd be very nervous hitting that high  . Watch out for pistons shooting through the bonnet. lol.. not that I doubt Magna engines. :D

I have a 99 3.5L. It redlines at 6000rpm but the rev limiter doesn't hit till about 7000rpm. you will know when you hit it, especially if you have an exhaust, you get an awsome sounding brap brap brap thing going, i dont recomend hitting it very often, read above the bit about pistons doing strange things and new holes in your bonnet :)

ive got a 2002 tj series 2 and it cuts out at 7000 buts it an auto and the shifts gears, but in manual mode it goes a little more about 7200 to 7300 i found that when i forgot to change gear in sports mode, and now im getting a new gearbox wonder if that cause it to blow the sungears out of the box

Bumpity bump, today I was pondering the question, thinking to myself 'you know...ive never actually hit the rev limiter, i wonder if I have one'
Well I can confirm, YES it does :P I pulled out onto the road.. stayed in 1st and slowly got upto 40km/h, then planted it. BRAP BRAP BRAP BRAP, Kicked in at exactly 60km/h in 1st and at about 6500 RPM
Now im worried that my engine will fall apart :P

TE-TW V6 magnas from factory have a 6800rpm (+ or - 100rpm) soft rev limiter.

what would a hard limiter be? the engine exploding?

last time i made an overnight trip to bunbury (south west W.A.) i held my 3.0l TE on the limiter for around 8 min's on slippery wet grass going from one side of hay park to the other (hay park is BIG! has 3 footy grounds on it), didn't over heat or any signs of trouble and as u can emagine, i had much FUN!
they put limiters on cars to prevent damage, mine is used quite alot :D

14.9 is pretty good for a magna.
14.3 is not wat i was expecting from a Xr6T....

A soft limiter just makes the engine stutter once at the preset revlimit (6800rpm in the magnas case), a hard limiter completely cuts the engine to bring it back under the revlimit then the engine kicks back in again then completely cuts out again and so on and so on.
Ask bain about the standard ford XR6T hard revlimiter at 5900rpm its bloody horrible! (a flashtuner fixs that though)
Oh and gas cars usually have the revlimiter disconnected due to the nature of gas and the big backfires that can happen when the ignition is cut when the car hits the revlimiter.

Thats about the normal for a stock XR6T manual, they range from 14.0-14.4. The autos are slightly quicker and more consistant in there times, even more so now they have the excellent 6speed auto in the XR6T.
You must remember that they are nearing 1800kgs in weight and the manual XR6T are notoriously hard to get the launch rite, the autos are much easier. Bain will know what im on about here.
My dads XR6T manual was a bugger to launch at the drags when standard and now its even worse with 318RwKw's.
my rev limiter is set to 6500 :)

Mine's 7400 :bowrofl: Though with peak power at 6400 there's not much point going quite that high.
What's yours at Jason?
I have only ever hit mine once, had a little backfire, sounded cool, but didn't want to do it again

My revlimiter was set at 7900 for the old 300Kw engine, now the stockish 3.5 motor is back in the limiter is set back to safe 7000rpm.

no they arent gutless!! they go pretty d**n well especially with better air flow and exhaust. mine will give a decent challenge. but... b careful hurting a 4G64... its a pain in the butt to find replacement parts for drivetrain, transmission etc... they are too rare. im going thru the hassles now  its no fun!
oh and yes they do have a rev limit lol at 6200 or so... no that i'd know... lol
(thinks... thus the new transmission)

My auto, 5 speed tip, won't let the engine even hit 6000rpm. Granted I haven't tried it in manual mode yet, although considering the only model heavier is a Verada AWD I don't think there is much point. Mum's old TE 3.0 5 speed would rev sweetly to 6500+rpm, hit it twice on the prepurchase roadtest:badgrin: .
