I was just wondering if anyone could help me with the problem I am having.

My fans DON'T work ?. Normally the cooling fans will turn on when the car reaches a pre-determined temperature right? Well mine won't.

I've been to the auto-electrics, the radiator shops and various mechanics all with pretty much the same responce " WTF?. It's probably your computer, you should take it to the mitsu dealer".

So I did and the response was that they couldn't see any up-front problems and that it would most likely be the computer.

Not a real big drama (except for the $800+ it will cost to have mitsubishi brisbane to do what they have to ) and even then i'm not promised any fixes or improvements.

The fans turn on if I turn the air-con on but with the constant rise in fuel prices I can't afford to run the air-con 24/7. Any help on this will be much appreciated.

-The missus drives it ( it's not flogged )
P.S Would the coputer from the v6 3rd Gen be a wise option as replacement?

I did check the fuses myself and i guessed the auto leky would have checked the relays ( i'm not to sure on how to myself ). Know how to ? Is it just a multimetre task ?.

do you have the 2.6 or 3.0 engine?

No, you won't be able to use a 3rd gen ECU for a number of reasons.

Has your car ever overheated? (like, temp needle goes over 3/4?)

Could be something as simple as the plug falling out, or some
silly mechanic (hehe) forgetting to reconnect it after an R&R of the radiator.

I had the radiator checked and pressure tested along with temp gague checked. It only over heats when idiling, like at a set of lights or maccas drive thru. When the car is moving with the wind in the grille it's fine. My other option was to buy a thermo fan kit and rig up a switch and just flick it on when I need it.

Could it be the fans themselves??
Bearing damage ??

Sounds like your thermostat is stuffed mate. (it tells the fans when to turn on)

I know with the 1st gens the ECU has nothing to do with the fans coming on and off, there is a little thermosensor in the bottom of the radiator, that could be shagged.

So i'll replace the thermostat and fans since that will be far cheaper than a computer replacement. Is this a home job ? I have to replace a belt or 2 anyway so...... Thanks 4 the help so far guys :D .
