hey all!
ok, now ive had my system in for 6weeks or so now, and since the first day, ive had engine noise.
most people have said its a bad earth....i have my amps earthed to the floor of the boot. the paint has been sanded back so its a pretty good connection.
the only other thing i can think of is: that the head unit earth is bad.
the earth on the new unit is much bigger than the standard magna rad/cass earth. this is what ive connected it to.
could this be the prob?? maybe not allowing enough current to pass thru??
PLEASE! ilove the sound of the supercharger thru my speakers...BUT ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!
well...its alll just a process of trial and error buddy
Awesome headunit though!!
yeh, check all the grounds, check your rca's make sure they're not running anywhere near power cables, cpus, stuff like that
if that still doesn't work, start using a process of elimination to single out the cause of the problem. Hook up a mp3/discman/laptop to the rca's, swap rca cables, swap amps, change ground points blah blah
heaps of ppl have asked about engine noise problems, search around :D

i had the same problem for months.. I earthed everything over and over
IT WAS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!
I found the problem and it was the RCA's.
So I went down to Autobarn and picked up one of those RCA filters.
Haven't had a prob since
BTW, thats something you should only do as last resort.

check rca's arent running near power cables. Search for altenator whine, it's been done to death.

my power cables are running down the drivers side of the car, and the RCA's are running down the passenger side.
although near the boot, the 4gauge crosses over the RCA's, but i dont think that would matter.
i think ill start by re-earthing the head unit. if that doesnt work....then re-earthing the amps...and if that doesnt work....il just turn the F**KING volume up and continue to go

If the noise is comming through Amplified Speakers like your Fronts and Rears then a ground loop isolator is needed on your RCA lines..
This is a device that will help eliminate the noise..
Simple to install Needs to be installed directly before your Amps.It requires an Additional set of RCA cables but will help illiminate the problem..

by installing a ground loop isolator, is that going to reduce any sound? as in how loud it will go or the actual quality of the sound??
tomorrow im going to re-earth the head unit. now, given the fact that the standard earth wire is smaller than wats on the head unit, where exactly should i re-earth it to??
should i use another wire? or put a terminal on the end of it and screw it straight to the floor of the car??

The problem is in ur wiring, move the rca where it crosses over the 4ga, see if it makes a difference
Ground loop isolators and caps are all bandaid solutions

really? il go try that very shortly.
but do u really think that such a small "intersection" of the wires can make that noise?

Yep. Even if they are even close to each other it can cause a problem if the sheilding is poor on the RCA's.
As for the Head unit Earth, It should be straight to chassis metal that is not painted.
Anywhere that has a solid metal contact to the car..
Definately not next to any fuel lines...
I am not sure on a TR-TS..

i looked in my boot and found that there were a few intersections with the RCA's and power cables. i rearranged a few things and it made a heap of difference. there is still a bit of noise, but i have to pull the box out and completely sepparate any other "crossover" points.
amazing how that can make such a big differnce!
thanks for the advice Magnat! i owe u one! :D

Good to see it's all fixed. If you still get more noise remember any part of your cars electrics can induce interference. Speaker wires arent susceptible as they are high level but other electric cables running through your car can induce noise into RCA cables. Easiest way to solve this is to use 4v+ preouts
Think about using cable ties to make sure your power cables dont move around and cause intereference down the track
Peace
