I just bought this H/U and i'm pretty sure 1 of you have the same 1 or very close to.
My question is( 4 anyone with JVC experiance ), Has it done the job for you?
Does the remote work without direct line of sight?
What speakers was it partnered with?
Is the Sub control good or a bit slack?

http://www.jvc-australia.com/products/_products_sub_group_details.asp?ID=1393

Thats the H/U info

I'm thinking of going for a duel 6" Alpine splits in the front doors, 6.5" Kicker splits or Alpine 6 x 9s in the back. Not to sure on amps and subs yet i'll just get them on impulse.

Sound good ?

Any imput would be good

I think magnat or someone has that headunit. It's been posted before, i'm very sure

as for front splits...you said you wanted 2 pairs of splits in the front? Good for wankery, but u could spend that money on one set of uber' creamage splits, and save hacking up your kicks/doors so badly :D

No the remote is infra red so line of sight is needed.

Yes the Deck more then does the job for me..
I absolutely love it..

Atlas, what Magna do you have ??

Do you intend on getting a Sub ??

A Single set of High Quality Splits up front and 2-way 6x9 down back would be the Ideal setup..

The car is a 95 TS 3.0.
I'm hoping that next week i'll have a whole set up all depends on money i guess, but yes a Sub is on the menu. ATM i'm looking at a PUNCH sub set. 2 x 12" - boxed - ported it's about $1000 and I know they sound good with a good amp. They're still up for debate atm. Am i better off picking 1 brand and sticking to it? all alpine for instance with the JVC H/U

Welcome to the World of Car audio..
What sounds good to you is your Best guide

Sticking to one Brand is your Choice but most will agree with me when I say it is a Bad idea as not one Brand makes the best of Everything..
Once again.. it is your choice

Your Choice of Subs sounds fine.. Rockford Punch 12inches go hard and a Ported enclosure will reap you with Great Bass as long as you have a Good amp to power them with..

Since you are getting a sub then I would suggest getting a Set of 6.5 inch 2-ways for your rears over the 6x9's unless you already have 6x9's down the back shelf already..

Going 2-sets of Splits up front is not necessary. Unless you like Custom work.
Buy 1 set of High Quality Splits then going 2-lesser quality ones...

The JVC KDG 615 will do a fine job of giving you tasty tunes especially with the Gear you have chosen..
It does not have the same Quality as Alpine or Eclipse but will still do the Job nicely..

maybehe just wants the wank factor of two sets of splits in the doors. They do look awesome.

If you do this, only use one tweeter, it the spilts have level output, set the tweeter at 0dB.

Also consider amping the splits as 'active' (run it through the crossover and then amp the mid and tweets separately) if you go the two sets route...

For the purpose of saving money only 1 set of splits will go in for now. Might do something fancy further down the road. Just gonna let the speakers run off the H/U for now and a single amp for the sub(s). Rather than 6.5" in the rear would a good set of 5x7's or 5x7 splits be a good idea? I've never tried 5x7's so i'm not sure the type of sounds they make.

Stick with the 6.5 inch Roundies.. I have used JBL 5x7's before and their output was inferior to the Round 6.5 inch

I'll go with Kicker 6.5" mid bass drivers then. I installed a set into a mates car and they go hard with a clear, strong sound. 1 down abit to go.

Kicker splits do sound good..

So far we have
JVC KDG 615 Headunit ( Great choice)
Kicker Splits up front ( Great choice)

Possible 2x12" Punch Subs in a Ported enclosure

This is the planning of a great sounding system
( No mention of Kenwood Thank Goodness)
Keep it Kenwood Free and all will be sweet...

LOL i'm not a huge fan of kenwood either. Had some bad times with both product and sales people. I just have to find a stockist of Kicker now. Also would carpeting the top of the boot help reduce any rattle you think ? I already have rubber bits behind the number plate.

Most Repco Stores stock Kicker or can get Kicker in..

Atlas

Ok I went down to Repco and got me some 6.25" Kicker splits and a pair of 6.25" Kicker mid-bass 4 the back on order and should have them on tuesday :D . No sub or amp atm but will come 1 day.

Atlas

ive got the jvc touchscreen deck and i know its not the same as yours but i think jvc is the best value for money deck brand you can get. havent had any problems at all...

oh, and while your looking for speakers, ill plug it again, but try the response precisions... we had a guy come into work today that was set on buying alpines but changed his mind when he heard the carbon fibre 12s on display.... just a thought...

First of all while I remember, Mark you have that voltage thing in your buttons thingy right? What's it for?

I'll put some pics up when I get the gear and some of the install. I say some coz the odds are I'll get ticked off and send it to the local car audio joint to finish it lol.

i just wanted to keep track of my battery voltage, rather than rely on the battery light. I have 1 farad capacitor under my seat but its too hard to peek around and look.

Im developing a voltage meter to replace my clock which blew up and ill put a switch for the playstation inverter where the voltage display is/was.

confused.. me too.. i need sleep.

good luck with the install

OK new plans. Still kicker but new speakers. pretty sure these are the names - KE6.2 splits and KE60 mid-bass. Getting them from JB hi-fi wed/thur and a usAudio 2 x 12" subs with 2 amps ( subs and amps are just cheapies 4 now ). Well i hope i get them then coz they have to send them to me from brisbane. With the $$$ i save on the cheapies I hope to get the boot lid carpeted and chuck in some neons for look.

magnat

Dont go with the US Audio subs, look around you will get better Subs.. It is best to buy the subs you really want then to waste money on " Cheapies"
Save up then get them..

Should I run the cables for the amp/s to the boot even if i don't have subs at the time? i don't wanna keep pulling the H/U out all the time.

magnat
18-09-2005, 08:57 PM
Yes as long as your main power Fuse is not in place and all your connections are taped up to stop them from shorting out.. No reason why you cannot do it..

So run the Power wire from the Battery to the Boot but do not put the fuse in the fuse holder..
Run your RCA's as well, just have them taped up to stop them from creating noise when they earth out against the car or each other and tape up the remote wire so it does not short out yourt deck..

Atlas
18-09-2005, 09:03 PM
the remote wire ? how will i use the remote then? and would it be better if i just left the power cable unconnected ? I was told today that I can score a SoloX for as cheap as $2200 so I might just save for 1 of those. ( it's the big 18" kicker sub incase you had a mind laps ).

Yeah, I really can't see an 18" subwoofer being all that great. Should just buy a couple of really nice 12" subwoofers.

Atlas
18-09-2005, 09:12 PM
Since it's release it's been THE sub to have if you want big bass. It still holds records for producing clear and un-matched bass of all subs ( info from Hot4's and some american sound web site) but i can understand where your coming from. Mabey 2 12's would be the way to go, and for $2200 i could by an amp too i guess.

The remote wire is the one that turns the amps on and off.

Your remote to control the HU functions is infra red completely different.

Jeees an 18" kicker sub!!

You will need a MONSTER of an amp to power that thing.

Atlas
19-09-2005, 08:00 AM
Yeah min. ampage for the SoloX is 2000. Recommended is around the 3000 mark and warranty void is at 4200. I'd be more worried about how big the box would have to be. But they just look soooo cool.

magnat
19-09-2005, 08:35 AM
Well if you like the look of them so much why not aim for getting Two 12 inch Versions..
It would make a Awesome install..

Atlas
19-09-2005, 08:47 AM
JB Hi-Fi is giving me a call today so mabey i could get a deal down on the table. I wouldn't mind a set of 12" alpine TypeS subs either so i'll just have to wait and weigh up my options.

P.S I now remember the remote wire.... lol I felt so dumb reading that.
