 OK, I'll confess, my curiosity got the better of me and I bought one of these Resistor mods from Ebay. It was only $9 with postage and is now worth every cent!!!!
I was reading through the instructions, they are pretty basic. There are pictures to show you what to unplug and where to install the resistor. This is where it gets interesting!!! The photo of the Magna engine highlights a 4 connector plug that connects to something on the side of the throttle body. Leading the installer to believe it is the Air Temperature sensor. Turns out it is the Throttle position sensor . How the hell that can affect you air temp I don't know. Magna ATS is in the MAF assembly!!!
Mr 'Engineer" really did his homework there!!! Anyone who has tried this and recorded performace gains must be suffering from Placebo affect!!!
Does this prove once and for all that this guy is a complete nutter??? I think so!!!

Just flicked him an email, eagerly awaiting his detailed response. I'd pay another $9 just to show him up!!!

Good work. So did you actually put it in? Or just look at it and shake your head in disappointment?

Mr "Engineer" :owned: Mr "Gullible" lol
I have actually got lots of zany ideas of my own and I have needed a guinea pig to test them on... I think I have found my candidate lol :P

I should dig around and see if I can find all the e-mails that transversed between myself and him,
This gets funnier and funnier, so he is onvoiusly the all inspired god of the authomotive mechanical engineers trade. I bow down to thee............
I think I may have to get back into this guy again for some fun, I am sure I can find an e-mail or two to reply to again

yeah i did the same thing 2 months ago i though what thw hell and mate the car wouldnt kick down or do any thing stayed in drive and ate the juice too thats what you get for trying new crap lol as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

No, I was scepticle right from the start and was Genuinely curious about what it was he was peddling. In theory, changing the resisted value of the ATS will work as it will simply richen the fuel mix. This guys claims it to be a timing advannce mod and many other things. Basically it was just for my amusement!!! At no time did I have any intention of putting it on the vehicle. I think we all know there is no such thing as a 2c - 20hp gain lol

I'm sure the guy knows he's selling snake oil. Doesn't matter, if enough gullible people buy the crap it's worth his while, eh? After all, it's what, $8.90 profit each? :)

Hell yeah according to his feedback rating!!! He has over 3000 feedbacks from sales in the last 12 months alone. You do the math!!!!

Sounds like he is making a nice little profit possibly... what percentage of his feeback is positive?
Madna

Interestingly enough, about 98% positive!! I couldn't believe it. The negatives were combatted with excuses like " you hooked it up to the wrong sensor" which I thought was rather funny being as though his instructions say to do this anyway. The instructions are very general, and describe how to fit the resistor to a lot of cars. Whether or not he has his info wrong for those I don't know but certainly in the case of Magna's (and any Mitsi that runs the MAF) He screwed up!!
As I suggested earlier, anyone that has found gains using this must just be imagining it, surely.
I would be interested to see a post from anybody who has used it and can now explain HOW they gained anything? :owned:
u should take the "mod" to a dyno place and get them to do a dyno before and after get some true results then show them too him and ask where the 20hp is

The Mod Is Crap And Does Nothing I Bought One To See What The Fuss Was About And After Looking At Instructions The Guy Thinks A Map Sensor On A Hyundai Excel Is The Cold Intake Sensor Lol Its A Fraud And I Did Report Him But He Makes Ebay Money So Why Would They Kick Him Off..if Anything The Sensor Will Dammage Ecu Also Use A Heap Of Fuel Which Will Burn Out The Cat Convertor And The List Goes On

In his description he states that the car will get more fuel and use less????? i am still confused.
Using this on a MAP will have a similar effect to that of a air temp sensor due to the signal being sent back to the ecu being "adjusted"
A few years ago people used to use a variable pot mounted in thier dash to get a variable result.
This guy tried to tell me that the ecu controlls the fuel pump and the ecu will get the fuel pump to increase the fuel pressure when more fuel is needed.????

THE SENSOR THAT HE SELLS TELLS ECU THAT ITS GETTING COLD AIR WHEN IT IS NOT SO ECU PUTS MORE FUEL IN....
MAP SENSOR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS MOD THAT HE SELLS
ECU MAY TURN PUMP ON BUT ITS EITHER ON OR OFF

You know you can use one captial letter in the beginning of the sentance, then use lower case! Very diffecult to read!

I think that automatically happens when you try and write a whole post in nothing but caps. I think.

Really, did not know that, I thought the ECU made coffee, got me blondes and trimmed my hair, oh well my bad. And btw, this is what a post looks like in lower case... :bowrofl:
If you had bothered to read my post, you may have actually realised what I stated was that while the mod was intended for the air temp sensore, a similar method could actually be used on the TPS, air temp, coolant temp or airflow sensors (yes before you state the obvious it is a MAS sensor)
And BTW, for the record, the ecu does far more than turn off and on the fuel pump. and the point I was making was that it does not alter the fuel pressure at all

My ECU steers the car and also lets me know when I'm late for important meetings!!!
Seriously, this guy has offered me a refund, I have emailed him with a a diagram (from the pdf manual) of where the ATS is and await his response.

Magnus, do your instructions highlight the TPS also?? Just to compare??

I had a customer who brought his car the other day so I can test the wires, I have tested the whole circuit and I found that there is only one voltage supply to the unit which is used by both the Air follow Meter and the Intake Air Temperature sensor. So if you disconnect the voltage supply, the MAF sensor will not work and will lead your car to choke all the time.
Above is the email I have recieved from MR TECHNICIAN. Speaks for itself eh?? W A N K E R. At least he is now admitting fault. :D
