Alpine amps are good and most are underrated. But they do come with a high pricetag.

I was recently looking at alpine decks, but found elcipse have them with the same (if not more) features, better sound quality, and at a much cheaper price.

I'd like to declare an intrest - my head units are alpine and I do like the brand.

Alpine amps are strange, strange creatures. You do pay a price premium for them. They are lacking in advertised power figures compared to similar amps at similar or higher ratings.

They are exceptionally quiet. (In a top-of-the-range general car audio way - before you go to the Audiophile ranges like the stuff FHRX sells)

If you have a Alpine head unit, they can link up in some interesting ways, and work together well - ie Bass Engine.....

The original V12 amps were bloody awesome. Not much could touch them. Powerful, bulletproof reliability.....These days, they seem to be of lower quality. I have heard of 2 blowing up from the 2004/05 range.

While they are still a good thing, you can usually get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

yeah, the oldschool ones, esp the V12 range were awesome. not the new ones with the digital readouts and nice looking silver covers, the ones before, waaay before that were good. U can get 'em second hand for cheap and yes, the are bulletproof (not literally, but u get the idea ;))

some of these new ones aren't too bad either, but still, I would consider other brands before getting an alpine amp. Alpine headunits i like though.

rocket.

I didn't really look into amps when buying mine, I jsut got a reasonably priced Clarion one and it does the job perfectly. :)

I'm looking at getting a second hand MRP-T130 2 chanel amp, it's 240W max with hi/lo pass and variable gain. $80.00.
Looking to use it to drive splits up front or a small sub, not after huge volume just clarity/bass punch
