Hi, just new to the forum and know very little about cars, hence my question.

I have a 98 Magna V6 Advance auto which usually runs very well - its done about 148,000 k's.

I've recently noticed that the car hits a flat spot in acceleration at low speeds - I put the foot down and theres nothing there. The motor still seems to be running fine, I'm wondering is this possible a blocked fuel filter, transmission problem, something else? It seems to do it moreso when cold then warmed up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have the same problem as you, started out only when cold and it was like a really bad flat spot, now it is doing it randomly and much worse, it now almost stalls. I changed the fuel filter and no change. I suspect the MAF sensor.

Thanks all -

Whats a CAI or MAF sensor - remember I know very little about what goes on under the bonnet!

Thanks, Gunja.

CAI = Cold Air Intake. It more or less relocating your air intake to take ait from somewhere else where it may be colder

MAF/MAS = Mass Airflow Senor. its on your intake and tells the engine how much air is going in, this how much fuel to put in and stuff.

:stoopid: the maf sensor is the square bit past ur air filter that wire connectd to it

hi, newbie here too, this seems common in magnas, i only just turned 17 and i got an '85 glx, trust me it looks awesome ;). The first 5 minutes or so of driving the car revs too high before breaking into 2nd gear, unfortunately my RPM gauge is broken but im thinking its in that field you all suggested. once ive given it a warm up, i can floor it from a complete stop without trouble, so yea i dont know if i can be bothered gettin it checked out but this problem sounds all too common

This happens to cars when they are cold, it's best to let them warm up abit before giving them a hard time.

Generally speaking when the car is cold they run abit richer some more then others, This can cause them to "cough and splutter" abit or be sluggish.

When you start it up let it sit and idle for a few minutes then drive it instead of start n go
